Lana Nelson with a special request we feature her grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Forsgren, in the Good Cook column. It might be well to use a poem which was sent to Ruby by a bishop of her ward which describes her perfectly. It goes like this "When it comes to choosing neighbors, it reajlv is no test, We only have to look next door to find the very best. We wonder what we ever did to warrant such good friends, Your kindness and your thoughtfulness just never, never ends. Your cakes and candies and desserts are delicious we declare. Wed match them up against any cook, they're far beyond compare. The kindly way you care for us and for our children far-awa- y Dr. Betty Janiak . . . guest speaker Homemakers BC set talk on too, family relations Brigham City chapter of the Utah Young Homemakers association will hold their March meeting on Monday, March 21, at 1 p.m. Speaker for the afternoon will be Dr. Betty P. Janiak, P.H.D., psychologist with the Bear River Community Mental Health resource center. Dr. Janiak entitles her speech For Better or Worse dealing with marriage and family relationships. The meeting will be held at the Box Elder School District board room, 298 West Second South. Babysitting services are available at the Young Mothers Cheateau, 23 South Second East. The Young Homemakers club is open to any individual in- terested in improving their homemaking skills. Visitors are always welcome. PANTS Vi 1 c. shortening, cut in shortening. for WHOLE WHEAT SPONGE CAKE eggs, separated, 1 Vi c. raw or brown sugar. V4 c. water, 1 tsp. vanilla, 12 tsp. lemon juice or extract, yt tsp. almond extract, U2 c. sifted whole wheat flour, tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cream of tarter. Beat with mixer egg yolks, water, sugar and flavoring 5 to 7 min. using small bowl. Then transfer to larger bowl. Mixture will be very thick and creamy. Sift flour and salt together twice. Add to above .mixture gradually, continuing to beat with mixer. Beat egg whites and cream tarter together until stiff. Do not allow to stand, but fold immediately, into first mixture. Bake in ungreased angel food pan for 1 hr. and 10 min. or until top springs back. 6 . heavy cast. During the last 3 years of active service, Mrs. Lester has held the office of local reporter, spotlight chairman and served on various committees. The club also brought home a Judy Lester, member of the Brigham City chapter of the Utah Young Homemakers association was installed as state reporter during the annual Utah Young Homemakers convention, held at the Salt Lake Hilton last February. During a campaign skit where she portrayed Super Jude the Super Reporter. She accidentally fell, breaking her knee cap and has since that time been burdened with a first place certificate for their scrapbook, compiled by Heywood, club historian Na-Den- e for the past year. Convention activities were conducted by Mrs. Kathy Christensen, also of the Brigham City chapter, who held the position of state president for 1976. the club is an excellent means to update skills, and gain new knowledge needed by todays homemakers, besides an access to meeting other homemakers in the Brigham area. Regular meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 1 p.m. and babysitting services are provided. Young Homemakers is open to any individual. Young, sometimes misinterpreted, means young at heart or of age. Visitors are always welcome. The Girl Scout Olympiad slated for Saturday, March 19, already has produced some winners. They are winners of the poster contest that provided posters to advertise the event in windows of local businesses throughout the city. Tamara Enright, Troop 493, was sweepstakes winner with a poster that combined the elements of the Olympics and Girl Scouting by using the scout symbol to form the interlocking circle symbol of the international games. Troop winners included Kelly Copley and Kathy Kallmeyer, Troop 493; Ann Hinchman and Mary Ann Lowe, 428; Valerie Thomas and Charlotte Hortin, Troop 494; Jamie Petersen and Barbara Schaeder, Troop 142. In addition, two awards were noted for original ideas one of Christine Lee of Troop 494 and one to Annette Spence of Troop 142. All are members of junior age troops. WHOLE WHEAT CRACKERS 4 c. white flour, Vi c. whole wheat flour, tsp. soda, Vi tsp. salt, d c. milk. 3 T. shortening, Combine and sift dry ingredients and work shortening in well. Add milk and blend. Place dough on floured board. Knead to form a ball of dough. Roll paper thin. Is Widow Ruby has been a widow for the past three years. She and her husband had three daughters and one son. Mrs. Glen (Irene) Leggett lives in Twin Falls; Mrs. William J. (Arlene) Benson lives in Roy; Mrs. Melvin (Janet) Whitaker in Brigham City, and Harvey L. Forsgren in Salt Lake City. She has 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Ruby was the oldest of 11 children and learned to cook at an early age. And even though she now lives alone she still does lots and lots of cooking. She and her and she has a family have many family mini cooking class in the Relief society of the Sixth ward. Her slogan seems to be Recipes like happiness need to be shared. During World War II she was the dietician for Bushnell hospital. She has catered many banquets and parties.
