Show Good Cooks County miss is wed in LDS tempi e rite IV by Flo Munson Bread baking is more than a hobby for many who have rediscovered the taste treat of a variety of homemade breads. Theres nothing quite like the warm fragrance of bread baking in the oven to bring back memories of at Grandhouse! Miss Leona Faye John and Albert E. (Skip) Chandler were united in marriage in an impressive double-rinceremony in the Logan LDS temple on 14 with a large group of Feb. relatives and friends in attendance. Rites were performed by President Glen Rex. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Wynn John of Portage and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chandler of Roswell, N.M. Following the ceremony a turkey dinner was served to fifty guests in the banquet room of the Portage ward meeting house hosted by Mr. and Mrs. John. The same evening the newlyweds were honored by the parents of the bride at a reception at the Portage ward cultural hall, where the bridal party received guests before a metalic back drop with baskets of red and white flowers placed on lighted pillars at either end. g r bread lends itself to Warm or cold, home-mad- e cream cheese, jelly, honey, apple butter and even peanut butter for treats which always hit the spot with youngsters and adults alike. A charming young homemaker, Mrs. D. L. (Maurine Hirschi) Holland of 525 East First South in Brigham City, has a delicious recipe for french bread to share with Box Elder Journal readers. Born in Brigham City Maurine was born in Brigham City, spent her childhood in Park Valley and returned to Brigham City to attend school and graduate from Box Elder High two-cour- school. During World War II while my husband was serving in the Navy, I was employed at Bushnell General hospital doing secretarial work. D. L. is with the Air Force at Thiokol. Im just a homemaker Maurine told me-b- ut what that gal cant do! Would you believe she has 20 intricate patterns of pillow case lace, all elegant and lacey, and shes making five sets of lace from each pattern. When her hobby is completed she will have 100 pair of pillow case lace--2- 0 for herself and 20 pair for each of her four children. They are made in all various colors and will be attached to hemstitched pillowcases. It seems an almost endless task, but Im well on my way to having them completed. When I tell my friends what Im doing they think Im crazy! I think I will enter them in our county fair before I give them to the children she added. I enjoy sewing and I love to cook she went on, I always can between 800 to 900 quarts of fruit and vegetables each year. Maurine has given demonstrations on making many different kinds of bread. She recalls giving a demonstration in Tremonton recently and chuckled as she told of her husband driving while she punched the bread down every 10 minutes on the way to Tremonton. Davis, Salt Lake City, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Lynn Davis, to Ralph H Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clovis H. Jordan of Brigham City. The couple has planned a March 22 wedding in the Salt Lake LDS temple. An open house is being planned in their honor on March 23 in the Brigham City Seventh LDS ward cultural hall. Miss Davis is a graduate of Cotton wood High school and a four-yea- r LDS Seminary Graduate. She has attended E. c four-yea- Salt Lake City. Mrs. D. (Maurine) Holland recipe for french bread . . . L. to 8 c. sifted flour. Dissolve yeast and add ingredients. Makes stiff dough. Knead for 10 min. Let rise for 10 min. Mix down every 10 min. for 1 hour (six times) Divide into three loaves. Roll into a rectangle and roll like jelly roll. Seal edges good. Slash at an angle 6 times across the 6 top of loaf. Beat 1 egg white and rub loaves. Sprinkle on sesame seeds. Pat with 1 T. melted butter or margarine. Let rise for 1 to iy2 hours. Bake 10 min. at 425 degrees. Reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake an additional 20 min. TATER TOT CASSEROLE Tried Making Bread wasnt feeling up to par and Dianne, the oldest daughter, tried her hand at making bread. She was only 13 at the time. Our cupboards were really quite high and she couldnt quite reach, so we spread clean cloths on the floor and she kneaded the bread on the cloths. A little school friend stopped by and immediately ran on home to tell her mother Dianne was kneading bread on the FLOOR! People call gave me a bad time Maurine confided--they- d and say I knew you were a meticulous housekeeper, but whoever heard of kneading bread on the floor? An active church worker, Maurine has served as president of the Primary, a teacher in Sunday school and Primary, a member of the Relief Society Stake board and is presently serving as the education counselor in the ward Relief Society presidency. The Hollands recently received the yard of the month award" sponsored by the Kiwanis club. My husband loves to garden Maurine said, his mother, a widow, lives next door and he assists her in keeping up her flowers, etc., as well as caring for our own yard. He was married on Valentines Day. They spent a weeek in that area and visited Juarez, Mexico, saw glass items being blown in a glass factory, visited The Market and toured other interesting sites. They were houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Armond Jackson their sons fiances grandparents. The K. B. Olsens have just returned from a delightful two weeks that took them to Arizona and California. They traveled first to Glendale, Ariz. where they visited their son and Mr. and Mrs. daughter-in-laAllan Olsen and two children, Paul and Carl. From there they went over to Redlands, Calif, and visited with former Brighamites Mr. and Mrs. Kay Shuman. Then they went to San Diego and visited her brother Mr. and Mrs. and sister-in-laAnother Barry Knudsen. Mr. brother and sister-in-laand Mrs. Ron Knudsen met them in San Francisco for a visit and they also had a chance to see her uncles and aunts for a brief hello, Mrs. Grace Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Wrighton Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace (Florence) Jensen. 9 Caldwell, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Petersen were weekend guests of the Malcolm Wildings at their canyon home on the shores of the Snake River. The Wildings are a sister and brother-in-laof Lindsay. The group enjoyed snowmobiling in the area, traveling to Mesa Falls and long the Continental Divide. Orders Filled orange jello (3 oz. pkg.) 1 pkg. lime jello, 1 pkg. lemon jello, 1 pkg. cherry or raspberry jello. Dissolve orange, lime and cherry jello seperately each in 154 c. water. Place in dripper 9X9. Set 4 hours until very firm. 1 can pineapple (crushed) drained. Reserve juice. Add Vi c. sugar. Dissolve lemon jello in water and heat to boil. Add y2 c. cold water. Let set until like syrup. Whip 2 c. cream. Blend lemon syrup into it. Add drained pineapple. Cut three color jello which is set into 1 inch squares. Fold into above mixture. 1 c. c. melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, Pour butter over cracker crumbs and blend together. Divide crumbs in one half and place y2 in bottom of 13 X 9 in. pan. Distribute evenly. Pour jello mixture. Place l2 crumb mixture on top. Chill 8 hours. STYLE WHITE Bridal Gown The bride was lovely in her full length gown of white satin fashioned with a tight bodice with nylon overlace, a high round neckline and long full sleeves with deep cuffs with pearl buttons. Pearl buttons also adorned the bodice. A bow of self material enhanced the back of the gown. A lace panel trimmed the skirt front, also set with pearl buttons. Her finger tip veil was of brides illusion and edged with wide nylon lace. It fell from a crown set with tiny pearl trim. She carried a bridal bouquet of red roses and white steffonatis. She chose as maid of honor her sister, Marlene John and her other sisters Peggy Sue, Mary Ann and Melonie as bridesmaids. They wore floor length gowns of red and white polyester and carried bouquets of candied carnations and one red rose. Michael Chandler, brother of the bride-grooacted as best man and Jeff Marshall, Wayne Green, J. Neal John and Larry Lynn John were ushers. Miss Ila Marie Goodey presided at the guest book. The mothers wore floor length gowns of red polyester and wore serving. Gifts were arranged by Mrs. Thayne Hupp and Mrs. Ray McAllister and were carried by Debra Bell, Bonnie and Barbara Hill, Mary Sue Edwards and Julie Ann Williams. The brides trousseau was displayed in one end of the hall. At the conclusion of the evening a program was presented with J. Neal John as of master acting ceremonies; consisting of a vocal duet with guitar accompaniment by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin John, a talk to the couple on tape by President Devere Harris who was unable to attend, a reading by Mrs. Devere Harris and two vocal duets by the newlyweds accompanied by Marlene John.
