Show Buzzing Bear River BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham (Jily, Ulah 17 Thursday, May 24, 1973 Local students In Brigham City receive awards by Scnneth Hawkei Dale Burt. Ann and Steven Holmgren and their two children have left for the summer to be at their ranch in Bridge, Idaho. Mrs. Florence Gardner attended the open house held for Norman and Alice Nelson at the Artistic Manor in Brigham City Sunday. It was the Nelsons Golden Wedding anniversary. Mrs. Carrie A. Christensen accompanied LaRaie and Chuck Nelson of Tremonton to Bountiful Friday evening to attend the wedding of Carries grandson Randy son of Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Christensen. Alva Hardy held a quilting bee last week. Those quilting were Mary S. Anderson, Pauline Leonard, Deo Johnsen, LaVela Matesen, Myrtle Anderson, Gertrude Jensen and Vita Burt. Light refreshments were served to the ladies. Mrs. and Mrs. Melvin Manning and daughter of Vesta Jensen of South Tremoton came for Mary S. Anderson Friday morning and they drove to Provo to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fielding (Aunt Annie). We are happy to know that Gladys Thorsen was able to leave the hospital last week and it was reported to us that she is feeling much better. We hope it wont be too long before she is able to get out with us again. Arlene Hodson and her two children of North Ogden spent Saturday with her mother Mrs. Zina Hansen. Sandra Jensen of Salt Lake spent the weekend with her family the Stanley Jensens. Sunday Guests Sunday dinner guests at the Stanley Jensen home were; Sandra, Joseph Dial of Willard, Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Jensen of North Bear River and of course, Stan, Romaine, Jeffery and Todd. Pocatello, Idaho spent last weekend at the John Hardy home. They were joined by other family members to help Alva celebrate her birthday Saturday. The Ken Pasketts were in Salt Lake Thursday. They brought their grand daughters Susan and Sylvia Grimmett home with them so the girls could attend the demonstration on how to care and groom horses at the Box Elder County fairgrounds in Tremonton. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Oliver of Murray called at the Boyd Hawkes home Sunday evening. Phyllis and Dell Holmgren have returned from a three week traveling trip to England. The met their son Richard there. He has completed a misson and they flew over to accompany him home. While there they visited the LDS temple. Sunday evening services were devoted to the Dollie Iverson, Senneth Hawkes, Danielle Hawkes, Ronda Silva of Brigham drove to Salt Lake Sunday afternoon to attend a baby shower for Robyn Hawkes given by her mother Mrs. Dee Hunter. The senior students from our town really made a good at showing the awards assembly at Box Elder High school this past week. Among those gaining honors were Michelle Burt, who won a debate scholarship at Weber State college, and most enthusiastic girl award, Roberta Huggins, who won an academic scholarship from WSC, and David Weidman, who won a long list of awards which are listed in another story in today's Journal. Jeffery Jensen surprised himself and family by winning a scholarship for excellence in agriculture from Richard. Talks were given by Phyllis and Dell, and a solo Candace by presented Holmgren. Brigham Truck and Equipment Co. That award was presented by our Bishop John P. Holmgren. We are very pleased with these honor students and are happy for their accomplishments. Robert E. Brown, who had served as worthy state vice president and is a charter member of the Layton lodge, was named in the top position. Enhance Programs The newly elected state president said goals set by the grand lodge for the year include the opening of additional lodges which in turn, will enhance the past worthy president; Rex A. The Eagles opened the convention Friday locally with meetings in their newly enlarged hall while the auxiliary met and had elections at the Elks lodge. The installation of officers was performed by the Salt Lake City Aerie 67 and auxiliary. D.D. It is expected that some of the visitors from Ogden will present special music. Monday evening is the time for our church to conduct the service at the Ogden Rescue mission. Anyone who would like to share in the service is welcome. Those going will leave the church at 6:15 p.m. People who would like to donate kitchen supplies to the mission should leave them in the pastor's office.
