Roy and his wife Mary, reside at 324 West Second South, where they have made their home since Roy retired, and moved there from their home in West Corinne in 1951. Open house will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., and is being planned by the couples children. Relatives and friends and invited to call and to reminisce with Roy on this most special day. The Forsgrens are true pioneers in every senseofthe word, having moved to Corln. ne at a time when alkali had ruined the farm acreage. Fruit trees had been planted from the Corinne City limits, north to the river bend and south to the banks of the winding Bear River. g Corinne was appropriately called Ap. pie Dale, and Fruit Vale and during the years from the 1880s to the early 1900s they boasted a school and an LDS church. The building was versatile, in its construction and furnishings, serving the residents of lt$ surrounding area with a meeting place for worship, a school house, and recreation hall. These buildings were typical of the one room school house that in the territory in that THE AREA IN West pre.-vaile- area. Apple Dale the end of the straight west approximately fore turning was located at road which runs from Corinne, five miles, be. to the north. FRUIT VALE, located near the Godfrey Roche farm, was where the Forsgren children attended Sunday school. When the Forsgren family moved here, from Brigham in 1918, the school children were being transported by white top wagon, drawn by a team of horses to the present school house in Corinne. The fruit trees fell victims to the al. kali and were pulled out, to be replaced with pasture and alfalfa, clover, and grasses to be cut for feed for live, stock during the long winter months. Mary, Roys wife desclbes the early days of their life in Corinne as horrible. No electricity, mud, mosquitoes, bitter cold winters, deep snow, and brackish salty drinking water pumped from an outside well, were only a few of the hardships endured by these settlers. BAD tasting water THE was one of the reasons that Roy, with the constant urging from his wife, became enthusiastic about the prospect of in West Corln. city water ne. With the tile laid by the Corinne Drainage District in the early 1900s, Roy and many other farmers in West Corinne were able to reclaim this almost worthless ground. The Forsgren farm, that is now run by his son Ralph and family, has been divided be. tween two sons of the Forsgrens, Ralph and RusseU. These two farms grow some of the best grain and sugar beets in the area. HAPPY BUITHDAY wishes this week also went to the A. V. Smoot.
