Show I w Lady Missionary Called to Serve In New England Miss Carol Olsen, daughter of John Patcyk, will at farewell testimonial service Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. be honored Nov. 10, at 7.30 p. m. in the Seventh LDS ward. Miss Olsen has been called as an LDS missionary in the New England mission field. She will enter the mission home In Salt Lake City Nov. 13, remain for one week then travel Cambridge, Mass., arriving Nov. 23 to begin her missionary duties. Miss Olsen is a graduate of Box Elder High school and seminary. She was valedictorian of both her high school and seminary classes. She attended BYU for one year and has been employed at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield as a clerk stenographer. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the services, Sunday. Program Sunday will include the prelude by Mrs. Afton Olsen, followed by the congregation singing, More Holiness Give Me." Leonard Patcyk will offer the invocation followed by the sacramental song, God, Our Father, Hear Us Pray." Larsen thoughtfully reads the newspaper telling of his youngest sons to the post of (Brigham City Councilman. Mr. Larsen, who will celebrate his 90th birthday Monday, Nov. 11, is happy to have lived so long to see his children participate in a government for and by the people in his adopted land. He journeyed to America at the age of 23 for an adventure, remained to make a home. 9 Box Elder JOURNAL Jens P. When leaving Denmark young Larsen received the best wishes of his parents and his mother later joined him here. The last wdrd received from his father was a letter stating that he too, desired to come to the new country His father died before getting here. Mr. Larsen has always been an avid sportsman. In Denmark he hunted a few times but never got more than one duck. He remembers shooting ducks for the Chicago market before the limits were , restricted. During a two day hunt he totaled a kill of 151 ducks and one goose. He used a double barrel shotgun until Browning perfected - the pump and then he chose Brownings gun. For many years he- served as guide' at the Millionaire Duck club and at the Blodgett club. Mrs. Larsen, the former Annie Christine Basmussen, whom he married May 30, 1893, was an excellent cook and spent many months in the duck clubs cook-- Jens P. Larsen will celebrate still have his 90th birthday anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 10, at the famfamily home, with immediate ily members in attendance. He looks back over the years since coming to the United States at the age of 23, and smiles as he thinks of the journey that was taken aboard the Wisconsin, for the adventure, and brought him here to spend the remainder of his lifetime. The trip by ship took 11 days with no signs of sea sickness experienced by the traveler. He was born Nov. 11, 1867, in Helsingor, just six miles from Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of Anders and . Bertha Peterson Larsen. He was one of six children. Carl Larsen, Salt Lake City, is the only other surviving member of his immediate family. He attended school in Denmark, then served ' his apprenticeship in a paint shop and became a painter. Upon his arrival in this country he began his painting profession and added 'paper hanging to his services. It is . interesting to know that in those days a painter came for the day and the lady of the house prepared meals and afternoon coffee for the workman.
