I do have a couple of things I would like to discus-,- , please allow me. The fust, concet ns civ it defense .here in oui atea. have done much wjttying about what to do, and haven't anv answer, yet. However, a way did open up M.is week to take some positive step in that desired dueetion. have at times diseused with various people what we could do heie in our area and almost a'ways we came up with the same a ns .vet: not much except to try to make each familv as for as possible responsible their own We could have received some federal money for our civil defense here in Corinne and I did make the first necessary arrangements only to discover that the monev had to be spent on warning devices, alone It would have been impossible to set such a device up here in Corinne so I dropped that issue. Last year some of you will recall, a gioup of us tried to interest the community in programs built around first aid and liims relating to civil defense and to put it mildly, it was unrewarding and disappointing. Protecting ourselves seems a long way off and very unreal. Our enemy is picking on other 'people at the time, but unfor-- I it tunately and unexpectedly could happen here. How many of us could take care of an emergency that meant life or death? I'm afraid I couldnt. Now, theie has been a way prepared for us to help our-- , selves a little. Begtntng Match 1 amt continuing for two weeks. By 1 I CENTRAL CHEVROLET announce the appointment of J. A. Meservy to their SALES STAFF Mr. Meservy will be happy to greet new and old friends as your new and used car salesman. Lon Hansen Leaves there will be instruction in first aid, through the Red Cross, at the Central school in Brigham City. The course will be thirty hours The exact time of day or night lias not been set, but 11 have that information later or you may read it in the paper befote. Lon' Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hansen, left the last of the week for March field, Calif., where he will be s'ationed with the air force. Lon has been stationed at Tucson, Arizona. He ha-- a collection of beautiful scenes with him, which he photographed while he was in England, and his many friends enjojed seeing A 1 j We need as many as feels they can to take this course and jthen come back and teach some more of us Im apiealing to leach organization, the Primary, the Relief society, the Boy Scouts, the churches, including the VBA., to tty to get some- one from their group to take this course. It is the one thing that can save our lives. Acting correctly and promptly at the scene of any accident, highway or otherwise is an important thing to know. If you would like to report to me, fine, if not, then you can sign up with J. D. Gunderson or Mrs. Mary Owen at the Central school. The tantamount thing is to get as many as possible to take the course. Youll not only be doing yourselves and family one of the biggest favors possible, but save helping your community its life, if it reaches that emergency. You may have noticed these small red plastic hearts in some of the business places in town. You'll see them at Morgans Market, the post office, the Bear , River Murphs Inn, Lons Barber shop and the Best Market. Yes, its another donation that is being asked of us all. Maybe if I told you that the diseases of the heart and circulation were responsible for annul half of all the deaths each year, then your contributions would seem acts of mercy They are used to further a three-iwaeffort consisting of research, education and community programs It takes a tremendous amount to research into these killing and crippling diseases. The research takes years and years and we never as individuals realize how important it is until someone we love is stricken. Thats when we pray for a cure. As far as I know this is the only appeal for the heart fund, except through the school, that will be made in Corinne. Last week I reported that Mrs. Leo Gilbert was making a trip to Kansas. At the time I repotted the news, she was, but it seems she was taken suddenly very ill and is irt ill unable to travel. Were all as sorry as we can be and hope she soon is able to conquer this persistent sickness. Maybe some of you have noticed that Robert Gilbert and his family are moving into the house vacated by Chris Rio and his family. Gilbert has purchased from J. Y. Ferry that beautiful stretch of ground where he now lives or will be living soon. As far as Im concerned it has been one of the most promising building for California c them.
