John A. Udy, a former resident of Riverside and Garland, received second place recognition at a luncheon at a recent conference for improving the quality of instruction. He received a $100 check and plaque. He has been teaching at Utah Technical college since 1968. He is a former journeyman welder and foreman at Thiokol Corp. October has been set aside as National Beauty Salon Week by this association, with Brigham City Mayor Harold Felt adding his name to a local proclamation noting the importance of the beauty industry. Peggy Thorsted, president of Affiliate No. 3 which includes the Brigham City and Ogden area, was on hand with the proclamation. The affiliate has about 70 members. She added that the professional organization has been involved since its founding in 8 Lake View has keeping high standards for professional beauty care, as well as training standards for those entering the profession. Not only does the beauty professional contribute substantially to the economy of the nation, but the proclamation notes that it assists in one of the nations the feminine greatest wealths beauty of America.
