PLACING SECOND in The final score read like this: Bear River offense 14, Bear River defense 14, Logan 6. In a game touted as a "winner in the driver seat affair, Bear River beat, battered and bombed a very talented Logan club 28-- 6 in Garland. The win places Bear River in the position of leader. Logan must try to better the Bears Region One record to gain a playoff with the fourth place club from Region Five. And the way the Bears played Friday, it will be a tough task. Coach Bill Jacobsen was obviously pleased with the win, but the first year coach was still flying high post game and had yet to digest the future before his team. The game went something like this in the latter stages: Logan takes over on its own 37. Grizzlie quarterback Kurt Facer drops back to pass and is thrown for an eight yard loss. Two incomplete passes later, Logan punts. Jumped on Fumble Near the end of the game, Logan jumped on a fumble on the Bear 29. Facer was dumped for an 11 yard loss. The Grizzlies went on the ground for six, setthen Facer ate a back. A fourth and 32 pass was ' batted away. Logan faced a third and 30 as the gun went off. Jacobsen had plenty of praise for his defensive unit, facing a strong Logan offense that went well occasionally when Scott Carlson ran the trap. Singling out individuals, Jacobsen pointed at Roger Norr, playing his first football in his career, with a tremendous job in the secondary. The senior knocked away two sure touchdown passes coming out of his zone to make the plays and was sure on open field tackling. Chris Webb at linebacker was very tough and Curt Weese at middle backer had his best game of his career, the coach said. Tad Morrison who intercepted a pass for one touchdown, and Ted Petersen, another linebacker who pilfered a Logan aerial, were tabbed by the coach. And we need to mention Lannie Lews and Bryan Christensen. They both did super jobs," said Jacobsen. Christensen, a big sophomore, came in reserve and just about lived in the Logan backfield. Limited Offense The Bear River defense limited Logan to a total of 72 a net 30 on the yards offense ground and 42 passing. The Grizzlies completed four of 19 with four interceptions. They rushed for 105 yards and were tossed for 75 yards in losses, 45 of them in the fourth quarter. Bear River opened its first possession moving the ball well, but stalled most of the first period until Howard Rawlinson took a Mark Williams option pitch and scampered 65 yards for the score. The kick was blocked but it was 0 with 21 6-- Jep-pese- seconds left in the quarter. Kim Hales got the ball back for the Bears on a fine interception and return to the Logan 20, but Paul Champlin picked off a Williams pass on the 11 to nullify that attempt. Logan was getting worried about all the time it was spending in its own backyard, and tried to pass out of the hole. Webb alertly snagged a Facer pass, watching his blocking form a neat wail, then ran unmolested down the far line 34 yards for the touchdown. Williams passed to Rawlinson for the points after and it was BOX ELDER ACTION SPORTS 723-347- but was prone to tighten up and make mistakes in key situations. If theyve been releasing that fish, soon they begin to wonder if they aren't catching the same fish each time. Perhaps the answer may be found in some information that recently came to the attention of Mercury outboards fishing department. It seems that some southwest fisheries biologists were sampling a lake to determine the mix of rough and game fish, and the size and age of fish living in the lake. In the process .of taking a sample, they trapped some fish and moved them a considerable distance away where they were placed in a holding pen to be studied later. One of the fish was a large bluegill that was tagged and kept for examination.
