NEWS, Brigham City, Utah Sunday, December 1, 1974 Editorially Speaking We need traffic study Don't dump unwanted animals Editor: but it should not lag off in the country thinking they People who dumpt animals back to see the bewildered look will find a home should come and watch for their masters to in these sad eyes as they wait before return. They would think twice Brigham City council in recent weeks has received citizen requests on two occasions for placement of stop signs at certain city intersections. The first petition was spurred by a fatal accident at First East and Second North. The second was for signs at three intersections on Sixth South between Third and Fifth East streets. It came because parents feel The traffic which uses Sixth South like a drag strip poses a danger to their children. In each case, the petitioner has expressed some impatience that something cant be done sooner than simply to refer the request to committee for study. This is un- derstandable. No amount of study can make up for the loss of a life. We agree with one councilman who bemoaned the fact that getting things done always seems to take so long. IN THE CASE of the First East and Second North intersection, the citizen representative who asked that stop signs be installed there, Blaine Olsen, a former city councilman, said he pointed a finger at this as a problem interesection more than three years ago. Still, there is another side to the matter. Its not good planning to run out and put up a stop sign simply because somebody thinks its a good several cats. These "Oh shame of the mothers of mortals, Who do not stop to teach, The sorrow that lies in dear dumb eyes. Certainly this is true with regard to speed limit markers which are BUT SURELY that reaction should observe bounds of sanity and not run rampant, thereby setting an example for wide-eyeyoung people to emulate at later games. Its our understanding that this year when an official determines that a coach has become obnoxious enough, he not only has the authority to eject him (the coach) from the d neither uniform in size nor posted in sufficient number. We question that the average driver is aware of the speed limits on all city streets. As our community continues to increase in population, also can we expect the number of vehicles using city streets to grow and the threat of mishaps with it. Sign installation by itself is no guarantee against doss of property and life on local streets. But effective signing and planning surely increases the odds in our favor. Perhaps we should also initiate some manner of crowd discipline as well. Say, at a point when fans have become overly excited, the officials might order the game stopped while recordings of soothing violin music are piped over the halls public address system.
