Show m BEHS Aeronautics Class Sees American Airpower During Tour of Hill Air Base A group of 23 aeronautics class students from Box Elder High school and their teacher, J. Earl Johnston, received a first hand look at American airpower recently when they toured Hill AFB. The group arrived early in the morning and were met by their escort for the day, Lieutenant Paul L. Hulme. The officer first Showed the visitors the giant aircraft repair facilities at the Ogden base. The and their instructor students saw what it takes to put supersonic Voodoos and Delta Daggers repaired here, back into the air in record time. Next, the visitors were escorted through Hill AFBs new painting and cleaning hangar. The painting and cleaning hangar, completed last year, houses the cleaning function and paint, dope, and fabric activities of the Directorate 'of Maintenance Engineering at the base. , A special feature of the hangar, pointed out to the Box was the ventilating system that completely changes the air within the huge hangar every two minutes. Other sites on the tour were the base weather station and radar approach control center (RAPCON), which electronically controls air traffic coming and leaving the giant Utah base. Concluding the tour was a 4 guided tour through a huge Globemaster aircraft. The visitors were feted at lunch in the civilian cafeteria at Hill AFB. r A I y 7 V v V s - ' ". Agent Advises Lawn High School Garden Tool Check Now Is the time to check and make sure that lawn and garden equipment are in shape for spring use, advises A Fullmer Allred, Box Elder county extension agent. Anson B. Call, Jr., extension horticulturist at Utah State University, warns that if tools and machines were put away in a hurry last fall, they should be protected now against rust or other damage. An important rule, of course, is to keep all metal parts of equipment clean and dry. Mud left to dry on tools, or fertilisers or insecticides left standing In contact with metal Is likely to corrode the metal during the winter, he adds. The garden fertilizer spreader will rust out quickly unless all leftover fertilizer is washed off and the metal dned and covered with oiL Fertilizer attracts moisture and thus invites rusting. If mud has been left on tools, remove It and rub down rusty spots with steel wool. Then Coat the metal with oil. If paint has Worn off, now is the time to reapply It Many a sprayer has been ruined in one winter simply by leaving insecticide standmg in it, Call points out Now is a good time to have your lawn mower repaired and overhauled. Mowers need sharpening and repaired at least once a year. Shops have more time to do it now than later in the spring. Classes Visit County Jail By Linda Palmer The Box Elder county jail was the scene of special visual aid study last week as the American Problems classes visited there to learn the basic jail procedures as explained by Sheriff Varren Hyde. After entering the Jail, the students saw the three deputy officers. One office was the finger printing room, another office was wallpapered with criminal pictures and notices, while the other contained many criminal files and pictures. Students then were privileged to visit the typical cell, containing only one small bed Relieved were many minds as a larger,, floor-tiled- , ten bed cell was visited.
