Dr. Knowlton took several samples of the larvae of the Cane borers These he will send into Washington, D. C. to have identified. Dont know if these larvae are from a moth or beetle, he said, "until we have them identified. We havent too much information on these pests in raspberries and more research work will have to be done before we will know the life Cycle and the best means of control. Boswell was the former county agent now working with Utah State university in extending information to foreign students. Twelve Iranians, one Yugoslavian and two interpreters were interested in dry farming practices of Blue Creek. Evan Thompson of our local SCS office took great pleasure in explaining to these men the methods employed by our dry farmersf to conserve soil and water. We stopped off at Israel Hunsakers stock pond. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Kotter of Howell told the group how they did it on their farm and demonstrated by showing how with the tractor pulling the diggers and seeders around a small area. These Iranians are used to the landlord system of government and it was difficult for how the them to understand land couhf be owned by so many people. The Noble blade in, operation was of special interest to the y group on the R. Welling farm. at Blue Creek. Thank you very much, each and every one said to me as I held down the top wire of the barbed wire fetice to make it easier for them to cross. This must be an appreciative race, these Iraneans. are Johnson Elberta peaches at the peak of harvest. Prices are reasonable. Early Elbertas will be on next week. Knowlton, entomologist from Utah State university. Don has been having some trouble with bores in the trunks of his prune trees. Dr. Knowlton told him that the two applications of DDT on the trunks of peach and prune trees were the best these means', of controlling pests. One application is to be made the forepart of July and the second one early in August. Use 'eight pounds of DDT 50 percent wettable in 100 gallons of water. , Don had a special problem in his raspberries whieh Doctor Knowlton was , particularly interested in. He showed us a new planting of raspberries. "This patch hasnt done well Don told us. Her is where I planted about 750- Latham plants, of the new Canby variety.- I got these in Washington State."
