Show x: ' J . 9 V J 4 J P The Box Elder County Board of Education has given approval for the organization of a class for beginners in string orchestra to be held each school day at the Box Elder High school from 3:45 to 4:30 p. m., it was announced this week by Ralph instructor Marsden, orchestra at Box Elder High school. The class is scheduled at that time so that students from the Central, Lincoln and Bunderson Elementary schools may have the opportunity to attend. However, in order to keep the class from becoming too large, only students in the sixth grades will be eligible to attend, Marsden stated. The class will include instrucortion on the four standard chestral string instruments, including violin, viola, cello and string bass, and will continue for the full school year. There will be no charge for the class, however, students must have or acquire their own Those who wish instruments. to attend and do not have instruments, may rent one from a reliable or reputable music company in Salt Lake City. These music companies have a plan whereby a string instru ment may be rented for as tle as $16 for six weeks. This gives the parents an excellent opportunity to see if their son or daughter has sufficient interest and ability to learn to play a string instrument without having to take the chance of buying one outright, Marsden said. At the end of six weeks, the $16 may serve as the down payment for any instrument the parents wish to select if they decide their son or daughter should continue with the class. However, if they decide otherwise, the $16 serves as payment for wear and tear on the instru lit- Mrs. Wynn Andersen Gives Training Text 4 Box Lltlcr NEWS Siring Orchestra Class for Beginners Offered to Sixth Grade Students Here ment for the si weeks it was being used by the student. Marsden emphasized that this is an excellent and inexpensive opportunity to find out the musical abilities and interests of a child. Only a very few elementary schools in the state are privileged to have a specialized musical training program made available to them free of charge. He stated that learning to play a string instrument is like learning to play the piano, the earlier the start, the better chance for success. Students who start now will have a good foundation of their instrument by the Wednesday, October 3, 1956 Brigham City, Utah time they enter the seventh grade and wish to play in the seventh grade orchestra. Parents who would like to enroll their son or daughter in the class are requested to contact Marsden at the high school, phone 145 or 329, or at his home , phone, by Friday, Oct. 5. The class will begin as soon as it can be organized after this date, he concluded. 752-M- Any woman who ever sat on an antique horsehair sofa understands why1 grandma wore six petticoats.
