Jay Yates pulled an iron man stunt by hurling two complete games on successive days and winning both of them. , Brigham City pounded out 6 hits while Yates was limiting Willard to a brace of hits. The boys with the big sticks for Brigham City were Ben Zundel and Delos Nichols, both pounding out round trippers. Going into the top half of the 11th inning, Yates, in addition to pitching a fine game, led off with a single. Jr. Rasmussen sacrificed him to second and he Scored on Lee Simonsens single to center field with what proved to he the winning run of the game. Woodland grabbed the limelight for the Willard team by making two circus catches out in right field, one of them robbing Nichols tor a home run and the other saving an extra base (lit for Jack Davis. Brigham meets Perry in the finals but the date of the game hasn't been set as yet. Willard defeated Corinne and Brigham City walloped Bear River at Rees Pioneer in the opening round of the tournament, while Honeyville won over Devveyville and Perry defeated Tremonton at Honeyville. Roberts is a veteran with over 8 years service in the British Regular Army. He served in the British Army as an Anti-Tangunner in the British Expeditionary Forces in France and Belgium in the early phases of the last war and was rescued at Dunkirk, like many thousands more, by a small fishing boat which carried he and several of his buddies to England and safety. After a short recuperation leave after the battle of Dunkirk, Roberts was released from the British Army and was put to work training the British Home Guard and in helping to rebuild the blitzed towns of England being that he was a skilled construction man and a veteran soldier. Roberts is the husband of Gwendolyn Keodley Roberts, a convert to the L. D. S. Church. According to Roberts his wife was influenced to come to Utah and Brigham City by Dan Frod-shawhile he was a Mormon Missionary in England several years prior to the war. The Roberts family arrived in the U. S. last April and afler spending a month in Massachusetts and Connecticut visiting friends they came to Brigham City. Roberts had been employed by Flint Construction Company of Brigham City since his arrival here. Roberts advised the local Army Recruiting NCO that he had made up his mind to make a career of t he U. S. Army Air Forces. He hopes to make a good showing so that he can soon sport some U. S. Army Chevrons. He was a full Sergeant in ho Biitish Army which would be at least equivalent lo art American Staff Sergeant; however his pay as an American Private will be greater than the pay he drew as a full Sergeant in the British Forces. 1st Sgt. Harvey R. Wardrop of the local Army and Air Forces Recruiting Office advises that to the best of his knowledge Roberts is the first Alien in the State to be enlisted in the U. S. Anticipates Record Enrolment Young Brigham university like most other universities of the nation, is preparing for a record number of students Seeking a higher education this autumn, and is making extensive changes to meet the needs of the greater enrollment. A construction program costing nearly $400,000 is nearing completion now, and will - provide much needed classroom space, dormitories and offices. With available housing, there should be no acute- - shortage of living quarters for students, according to university officials. The demand for broader education is also being met with the addition of new courses - and new departments of Instruction. Numerous faculty and staff members, recently- appointed, will help to handle the expected record enrollment. A new admissions policy, requiring an applicaton form from prospective students goes into efffect at the beginning of the next school year, October 1. All new students of the university are required to submit applications. New freshmen and sophomores will get their first introduction to BYU during an orientation period September . Other students report for registration September 29. An unusually rich cultural and social program is also outlined. Plans call for a drama producton each month. Another full lyceum schedule is also on the calendar, bringing over 35 t performers to BYU. A student social and activity program will round out a balanced offering for what is expected to be a historic year at the BYU. s - d County Fair Prize Lists Published ( C Ai the appointment hltaler, 38 South 4th Ldng kt Good family home with income property for anyone moving to Provo.
