Whited said THE MOBILE center is open in Bountiful, If something good can come out of our current drought situation, it is that, hopefully, people have become more aware of water and of the need for conservation THE world is experiencing diminished water supplies with increasing demands through technological ad- 1570 South 2 p.m. on Main, from 1 to Thursday Centers in Layton are located at 18 North Fort Lane from 12 noon to 1:30 p m. on Tuesday. We can no longer have a throwaway society, he said. MR. Remington said, with more people walking for their health, more people pick up cans. He said one woman in the Davis County area picks up about $7 worth of aluminum cans in one week as she walks and donates the money to her church. He said another contributor is so interested in the project that she complains she misses appointments because she stops along the road to pick up cans she sees as she drives. Since the recycling process began in Utah in March 1975, the citizens of the state have turned 100,632,000 pounds of aluminum into recycling centers, Mr. Whited said. About 90 to 95 percent of the aluminum collected is in the form of recyclable cans. AT PRESENT the company is recycling 26 percent of the cans they distribute, but they are hopeful that they can reach 100 percent. Theres a gold mine of money on the Mr. Whited said ground, Aluminum cans can b recycled indefinitely. Peoplt who participate are stressing ecology as well as saving natural resources. The company has produced several films which they show to schools, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, encouraging them to become involved in the recycling process. Mr. Whited said that sometimes people are not aware which cans are aluminum and which are tin. The only reliable test is with a magnet. Magnets will not stick to an aluminum can, he said. MR. Remington said, as an added bonus, a $25 savings bond is given each week at the mobile locations to the collector of the most cans.
