WAYNE GAMBLE, a Clearfield ex-- t resident, pressed his concern to thej city council over the budget in the police department. Mr. Gamble has compared the budget with Brigham Citys budget, which is approximately the same size as Clearfield. He feels that If you break the budget down the police department far exceeds the cost of seven or eight other departments THE RAISE in utility rates had to come because of a state law which says that city utilities must be self sus- taining. In the past few years audits showed they were in the red. MOST OF the cities along the Wasatch front raised Lggtea THE COUNCIL also pointed out that the police department crime lab van was purchased with proceeds from a benefit show held by the Clearfield Jaycees. The police department originally asked for over $300,000. The budget was cut considerably. combined. MR GAMBLE argues that the police dont give any leeway and are pressured to write citations right down to the letter of the law. The council said no one is immune to the law. Clearfield has the highest impact traffic situation in the state because of HAFB and the Freeport Center. a residential beautification contest. This has been announced by Mrs. Linelle B. Rose, Chairwoman. questions and concerns over the budget, but they are also residents of Clearfield who had to pay taxes. Councilman Ray Adams commented that there are close to 17,000 citizens in the city, and only half a dozen people were present at the public hearing to adopt the budget, which should be the most important meeting of the year. COUNCIL members spent many hours going over the budget and cutting costs about $$8,000 from original proposals. Clearfield is one of the few cities in the state which hasnt raised the city mill levy in the past 15 years. Many people express concern over the recent raise in water, garbage and sewer rates.
