To Senator Mussers statement that the figures he had produced lished report. t 1 Salt Lake City, Feb 13 (AP) H. Senator George Ryan of Eureka, who declared he had been in the mining profession since childhood, yesterday launched a fight in the senate against the present system of mine taxation in Utah and proposed instead a tax on income. He presented figures which he said he had obtained from published annual reports of the Utah Copper company and from the state board of equalization, and declared they showed a discrepancy between net income as reported to stockholders and net proceeds as used as a basis for taxation of some $7,000,000 for 1928 and the former figure he declared to have been $21,993,898. Expressing doubt as to the authenticity of the figures cited, Senator Burton W. Musser declared if they were correct either the state board of equalization a mammoth had perpetrated fraud upon the people of the state or the mining company had deceived the board. The figures were advanced by Senator Ryan m support of his contention that some distinction must be made between the open pit operations of the Utah Copper company and those of the deep mines of the state in fixing tax-- that effect in the companys ( Hilar!c Penian Tent Is Included In u St. hi vel10. id.- - or ficnmse a PeivUin vet.
