IX, Number XLIV Double Speed Predicted For Geneva Works Completion By January Next Year Abandonment of Other Plants Means Swifter Pace for Local Project; Housing Problems Ahead Now that definite decision ha3 been made to go forward with the Geneva Works Iron and Steel plant, it may be told what a narrow escape the plant had from cancellation under the recent changes in policy of the War Production Board. For more than two weeks a discussion of whether or not the Geneva Works should be abandoned has been going on behiiiJ the scenes. At one time it is understood that the decision bad almost been reached to abandon this plant along with numerous other proposed plants. However, the strategic location of the Geneva Works and the additional fact that probably mora million dollars than of the cost of the plant had already been committed under contracts turned the tide lir favor of retaining the Geneva works. As a result of the decision to abandon other proposed plants, construction at Geneva will undoubtedly go forward' at a much swifter pace than was ever considered possible before the change in policy ef the War production Board.
