Even winners will be the losers in the larger sense, the unless out of it will come that glorious day all true Christians have been hoping and praying for, the dawn of universal peace and the brotherhood of man. That is the one remaining hope of the world. It is that hope which should actuate us as a nation in this great struggle. If it comes, the four freedoms, and all the other freedoms will be here, for mankind to enjoy. Then true Christianity will have its day. It will heal the wounds of the nations and remove hatreds from their hearts. ELDER JOHN LAUDIE Mayor B. fi fail, but are abandoned before they have been given, a fair opportunity to succeed. To those who have an abiding confidence in Jesus of Nazereth and Ilis mission of salvation and redemption, there is an undiminished faith and hope that before the peoples of the world will enjoy again peace they must accept the teachings of Jesus both as an individual and a national way of life. May we keep faith in God by righteous thought and action. May we keep the faith of our Fathers who established the Bill of Rights which gives us freedom as God would have us enjoy it. May this be a happy Christmas season despite our anxious fears for the safety of our homes, our loved ones in the service, and the preservation of the ideals of right and justice. Let us cherish all that we have, appreciate one another, and count our many blessings day by day. May the New Year bring a smile of good cheer and confidence is our humble desire. ff securing necessary materials. It has been said that real causes do not fail, they never As the National Defense Program expands in Utah County, Orem will be called upon more and more to take on new responsibilities. Many will benefit by such expansion in an economic way while many others will have the new burden with little financial gain. So your city officials urge you to cooperate, and we shall endeavor to so direct city affairs that those who reap the benefits will pay for their reasonable cost. We are confident that every Orem man, woman, and child wall rally to every worthy call. We should produce a fruit basket next year the greatest in our history. We should protect and support our institutions, homes, schools, churches, government, and industry. We should guard our health and keep calm with faith in every emergency. We should support our Federal Governments call for the purchase of Defense Bonds. We should support the Red Cross with all our might. Civilian Defense should be our watch word. S' AUDITORIUM AT u With the world torn with trife and with every major nation engaged in bitter warfare, it may seem a bit ironical to talk of Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward all men. The peoples of the world may not be in the mood to listen t such a message, but there probably has never been a time in the history of the world where such a message was more badly needed. Looking upon our world red with carnage and with hatreds fanned to a white heat, the scoffer has ground for belief that Christianity has failed, that the gospel of the Man of Peace has failed after 2000 and more years of trial. The citizens of Orem will rise with the nation in righteous indignation and might against the War Lords of aggression and help smash their machine of destruction. Let us put our house in order that we may not only carry our own load, but be able to help gain victory in this international struggle for right and justice by helping others.
