Show THE PAGE EIGHT OF THE LAW OF Word SCERA Cleared Up (Continued from page I) sold can be shown on our programs. Wo are fortunately situated near Provo where there are two large extra fine first run picture houses, Paramount and Crest, and one second run These have at house, the Orpheum. least three changes of program per week and would therefore have a large number of fine pictures to supplement our program. If you are especially fond of dramas you can select just what you like from the big program available at the Provo show houses, also comedies. Westerners, etc., depending on your tastes and pocket book. Of course the picture show houses are commercial institutions and must cater to all their patrons, hence it would be well that parbefore ents inquire about pictures sending their children. We are satisfied that the managers of show houses will gladly cooperate with you in choosing the kind of pictures you would like. If you desire we shall be happy to help you as far as we can in advising you of pictures playing in Provo and whether or not they will be on our programs. Several of our members have complained that they see the pictures months in advance at Provo. If you will remember that the Crest and Paramount must pay large sums of money for this privilege you will know that it would be impossible in our program. It is not the intention of the SCERA" organization to supply all the needs of people who like picture shows, but rather to help and encourage our people to want to see some good clean pictures. We are assured that the picture shows provide one of the finest forms of recreation that everyone can enjoy profitably whether rich or poor, young or old. During the last few years when family budgets have been almost at the vanishing points many of our "eople found it impossible to attend any picture shows. This was particularly true of fathers and mothers, We believe that many a man and woman has received new hope to try again in their struggle for existence through their living in the picture with other folks who have failed and then succeeded. It is a major obpective of the SCERA directors to provide a recreational program at cost, within the reach of the majority of the families in this community. We also would encourage you when VOICE CONSECRATION MISSIONARY The Law of Tithing is sometimes referred to as the revenue law of the Church and such it is; for it provides means to carry on the Church's work in some of its most important phases But in taking that view, let us not lose sight of a higher consideration. The I aw oi Tithing was given to supersede, for the time being, a greater law known asthe Law of Consecration, the object of which was and is to sanctify the Lord's people and "prepare them for a place in the celestial world." To that end it was designed to do away with selfishness, greed, pride, envy, poverty, and all the ills that spring from such conditions. For none of these things can of be admitted into the kingdom heaven. It was to institute an order of equality and consequent unity, in which every man, employed at that for W'hich he was best fitted, would -- c,B SjiARON be seeking the interest of his neighbor and doing all things with an eye It is an single to the glory of God. ancient law. It was practised by Enoch and his people and later by the Apostles and their proselytes at Jerusalem, and by the followers of Christ, both Nephites and Lamanites, upon this chosen land. A brave attempt to practise it was made by the Latter-da- y after this Saints, soon Church was organized. That lesser law, the Law of Tithing, is as a schoolmaster, a disciplinary agent, to bring the Saints eventually up to the practise of the higher law, and meanwhile to keep their hearts open for its reception when it returns. Those who obey the Law of Tithing will be prepared. That is the whole thing m a nut shell. Ye are tithed that the Church may have means to build and maintain temples and tabernacles, to found and sustain missions and schools, and otherwise carry on its fereat work throughout the world. But that is not all. The spiritual dviidend that we draw from heaven as the reward oi our obedience, is the principal purpose for which the Law of Tithing was instituted. All the rest is incidental or secondary. Orson F. Whitney. , IT THE I.OYIES Q. Are the first comers at a motion picture theatre entitled to aisle seats? A. The only effective way to eliminate offending pictures is to not patronize pictures which are not clean. Let us as a community do our part in the national movement to eliminate immoral pictures by staying away from them and giving our patronage only to the good ones.
