Those persons planning to attend the Lower Joes Valley ride should be at the Park Ranger Station early Saturday morning, April 13. The ride will last two days. Camping facilities will be available at the Paris Ranger Station. For the Gordon CreeK - Bob Wright the gathering place is at the Upper Omans Ranch Saturday morriing, April 20, Ranger Stithem reports. These rides are made cooperatively by the Utah State Fish and Game officials, Forest Service officials, Bureau .of Land Manage ment officials, local sportsmen and stockmen, and other interested persons. The purpose of the rides,' Ranger Stithem said, are to examine - the winter aeer range, to observe the condition of available deer forage, and' to observe the condition of the deer themselves. A count of deer seen on the rides will be kept to determine trend of num-bef- e of animals as comparecTwith numbers seen during rides of former years. Winter range is the limiting factor for these deer herds and no larger herd will survive than the winter range will support, Ranger Stithem stated. Yearly Deer Counts You Cant Make Driver License Renewal Application by Mail, Says Utah Director Now m Progress . Throughout State The yearly range rides are continuing over the state as the condition of Utahs deer herds available winter feeds are evaluated, the department of fish and game said today. Several rides are conducted every year during the late winter-earlspring period in each of the 62 deer herd wintering areas. These areas form the key to the deer numbers that can be maintained in each herd since the winter range is in short supply to the nrirh larger summering areas. Range managers from the department, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management make the surveys each year. They are often joined and aided in the work by locally interested sportsmen and others. surveys Following the state-wid- e each year members of the above three government agencies several local meetings in all sections to consolidate recommendations for the fall harvest of big game animals. y' then-condu- ct was explained by Mr. Miller that the required eye test may be taken without charge at any of the divisions driver license offices or by applying to a drivers license examiner as he Appears on regular schedule in various cities and towns throughout the state. Or, if it is more convenient, the licese holder may furnish the department with a doctors report or certificate showing the results of his eye examination. Mr. Miller disclosed that the new eye test law had greatly increased the work of the drivers' license division and this has caused some delay in the issuance of individual licenses. He explained that most of the backlog of work was due to processing of eye examinations of 77,649 holders-o- f good-until-revok-- ed or Granddaddy licenscs who were required by the law to successfully pass their first eye examination by January 1, 1957. Mr. Miller advised that these license holders, like the holders of regular licenses requiring renewal must pass an eye examination within the last three months of every fifth year following the date of their initial examination. George C. Miller, director of the drivers license division. State De: partment of Public Safety, advised todays that quite a large number of holders of Utah operators and chauffeur's licenses are making application by mail for license renewal without taking the required eye examination. This causes considerable delay in these persons getting their licenses renewed as it entails the carrying on the correspondence with the applicants. ' Mr. Miller pointed out that a Utah state law, which became effective May 10, 1955, requires all license holders to pass an eye ex- . animation every five years. In view of this, it is impossible to renew an applicants license until the results of the eye test have been received by the department. It PLANNING TO BUILD A NEW HOME?
