Not Pay If you are considering joining other housewives who are streaming back to work these days, here are some problems youll have to think about, according to the edi- -, tors of Changing Times, The Kip-ling- er Magazine,, If the main purpose is to add to . the family coffers, a wife must have, a job that will, pay at least her expenses over her taxes, and a net return that will make the job financially worthwhile. If she files a joint income tax return, she pays at her, ;husbartds top rate. .If hes bracket, roughly in, say the 26 -- The signs ail point to bigger values in foods and service here . . . Our greater volume reflects greater buying power andsavings passed on to you . . .Customer Service is our motto. 26 cents of every dollar she earns will go to taxes. And so, the more her husband earns, the more she pays for the privilege of working. One wife, whom the editors cite as typical, took a job that paid $250 a month. After all expenses lunches, for clothes, taxes been had and transportation taken out she discovered that she had $91 a month left to contribute to the family income. Even at that, she continued to work because the $91 a month makes it possible for her and her husband to stay out of debt. She will have perosnal and family problems to cope with, too. An outside job may free her from routine houshold tasks, but it wont rid her of the responsibility of managing her home. Is she up to it physically as well as emotionally? Will the youngsters be okay? Whether or not a wife is depriving her child by working depends on the kind of person she is and the kind of arrangements she makes for his care. Finally, will her husband go with theldea wholeheartedly WiH he pitch in with the housework if he has to? Does he agree that the kids will be .in good hands?
