Show Mountains of Coal Wild Trout Rearing The wild trout rearing periment continued generally successfully as it was carried through its second year by the Utah Department of Fish and Game. Records from five reservoirs used in the program with one exception show a fine growth and return from plantings of finger-lin- g rainbow trout. The exception occurred when little return of fish was realized from small fish planted during the late fall months and recovered a year later. In all other instances the plants were made' in the spring and fish recovered at the end of the growing season as the reservoirs were drained. All the waters are used chiefly for irrigation and are normally drained each fall. For this reason they have been previously unproductive of fish life. The following totalled figures show the rapid growth and the recovery of fish from catchponds constructed below these five waters: 462,032 fingerling planted ex- . It would be a sad day indeed for this country if we ever ran out of coal that great and basic energy resource. Luckily, thats a possibility no one need worry about. According to Secretary of the Interior McKay, coal constitutes 84 percent of the known potentially recoverable mineral iuel reserves of the United States. These reserves total nearly 95,000,000,-00- 0 one third of the whole tons world supply. Moreover, this inventory is far from being complete, impressive as it is. Director W. E. Wrather of the Geological Survey says: "Much new detailed geologic mapping and exploration will be necessary before we will have even an adequate picture of our coal resources,, and the present estimate should be regarded only as a report of progress to date. Our coal industry, despite all the severe economic problems it has faced and still faces, is superbly well geared to make the best uses of these resources. The and it is of moment problem is to keep coal on to everyone a profitable basis. A fair profit, in the long run, is the key to proand is essential to unlock gress coal resources. weighed 2,853 pounds; 129,610 fish recovered weighed 20,922 pounds following an average growing season of 110 days; results proved best when IVz to 2 inch finger-lin- g were planted and average size when recovered was seven inches. A loan that meets these tests we consider basically sound.
