Show Allred ends coaching career Friday Bs c The Dixie College Rebels their basketball season this Friday, February-18- , with a matchup against will wind up current ICAC champions, Snow College in Ephraim. Although Snow has already wrapped up the conference title with an unblemished 10-season record, the Rebels still would like nothing better than to defeat the Badgers on their home court. The Rebels, currently in the third place slot in the ICAC, need the win in order to tie second place College of Eastern Utah and possibly get a shot at the regional playoffs in Arizona next month. The CEU squad overall record, sports a while Dixie holds an 6 overall standing, including two wins over CEU. But Dixie will undoubtedly have their work cut out for them when they tip off against Snow College. The strong and balanced Badgers have recorded a remarkable 22-- 4 season record, paced by ICAC leading scorer, Mike Mundee, with 22 point and 16 rebound-per-gam- e averages. Snow will also be looking to 0 forward standout, Larry McKinney, who will see action this Friday for the first time since breaking his hand last month. The Rebels would like the win, as a fitting conclusion to Coach Allred's last season as a basketball coach at Dixie. Allred announced last Friday his retirement from coaching in order to devote his full efforts to the development of overall Dixies athletic and P.E. programs. The Flyers only scores in the overtime period were from the foul line. With Jimmy Cannon and Scott Reber both fouled out of the game, the Flyers couldnt generate an offense. Along with poor shooting the Dixie crew committed four bit turnovers in the 38-3- 8 44-4- 46-4- overtime, which allowed Cedar to run rampant all over the court. While Dixie scrambled to get something going, Mike Graf got hot again and scored eight more points in the overtime. To put the Flyers away. Final score Cedar 57, Dixie 48. Graf was high score man with 20 points, Kirk Smith had 13. For Dixie, Scott Reber tossed in 11, Cannon and Jennings had 10 each. Dixie shot 4 from the field for 36 4 percent. Cedar scored for 43 percent. Cedar shot more fouls, while Dixie shot 16 for 19. Another interesting note. Dixie was called on 24 fouls while Cedar committed 15. The playoff game to determine the region winner will probably be in a couple of weeks on a tuesday. The program, held at the Dixie High School gym will continue each Saturday morning through March 5th. 5th GRADE DIVISION The Eagles, coached by Mert Lovell, won a close, 48 to 42 , victory over the Badgers. Timothy Gentry led the Eagles with 20 points, while his teammate Jon McMullin was close behind with 15 points. Jeff Lewis hit 7, Mark Pastore hit 2 points and Terry Lovell added 4 points. High scoring man for the Badgers was Andy Gilbert who hit 22 points, Glenn Webb with 16 and teammates points Stephen Labrum and Kent Page each added two points. The Lobos won a lopsided, 48 to 12, victory, over the Falcons. Rick Johnson was the high scoring man with 26 points. Chad Cooper chipped in 16 points and teammate Scott Hirschi added 6 points. The Lobos were coached by Sam Gentry. The Falcons high scoring man was Paul Staheli who hit 10 points, Kenneth Nyberg added 4. 4th GRADE DIVISION The Cougars, coached by Robert Slack, won a colse game against the Sun Devils, to 26. High scoring man for the Cogars was Matthew Staheli with 16 points. David Worthington came through with 12 needed points. Brent Hirschi and Gary Slack each hit for 2. The Sun Devils coached by DeVon Dennison played a good game as they came within 2 at the half. Brad Esplin chipped in 12 32 points making him high scoring man. Bill Winsor tipped in 6 points, Curtis Larsen & Shawn Webb each made 2. Eric Dennison made 3 points The Bruins won their second game by outscoring the Jayhawks 30 to 16. The high scoring man was Jeff Ence with 16 points. Greg Newby had 6 points, Jeff Taylor, Stanley Price and Greg Leavitt each added 2 the points defeating Jayhawks. The Bruins were coached by Hal Bent. The Jayhawks high scoring man was Kevin McLaws with 6 points. 3rd GRADE DIVISION The Buckeyes won their second game as they stunned the Wildcat 22 to 4. Leading point lead, before Dixie caught fire and pulled to within four points at the halftime buzzer (4844). Dixies Woolley hit three quick baskets in the second half to put Dixie out front 5048, then the two teams traded baskets down to the final buzzer. And the only thing one can predict about this rivalry is that the game will be unpredictable. And that held true to form, as a capacity crowd viewed the second game of Region play with the Cedar Redmen outdoing the Dixie Flyers in a thrilling overtime game. Coaching the Wildcats was Gene Hammond. The Wolverines won their first game as they edged the Grizzlies 10 to 4. Tavish Snow was the high scorer for the Wolverines with 6 points and Kyle Frei and Shawn Esplin each tipped in 2 points. The Wolverines were coached by Kent Frei. The Grizzlies high scoring man was Randy The Dixie College Womens Basketball squad will see action this weekend on the Dixie HOME COURT AGAINST College of Eastern Utah on Friday, and Wasatch Conference leader, Ricks and 12, with the top two teams from the Wasatch Conference going against the top two out of the Arizona Conference. The winner will then travel to the AIAW National, March 6 in Vincennes, Indiana. 23-2- Dixie dropped into the College, on Saturday. This weekends results will pretty much give the Rebels the hopes or sorrows stated for the Regionals, Rebel Coach Anna Jane Hafen. Dixie currently shares the second place conference slot with Snow College, both identical teams with 2 conference records. Dixie needs both weekend wins, according to Coach Hafen, to second place tie with Snow College on February 11 when they lost to the Badgers in Although it Ephraim, was a close game, with both teams trading for the lead, Snow was able to pull out to a half-tim- e 6 margin. Dixie managed to regain the second half lead then lost it again as the ballgame drew to a close. The Rebels held Snows two leading scorers, Vickie Jensen, and Marissa 68-6- 3. 40-3- Mortensen, well below their usual averages, while Dixies Rose Labrum and Chris Tea picked up 18 and 17 points respectively. Sandra Mc- Cormick added another 14 points for the lady Rebels. On February 12, the Rebels lost to the Utah State in nonJayvees, 70-6- conference action. Chris Tea played an outstanding game leading both teams in shooting and rebounding with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Rose Labrum dropped in 18 points and Debbie Bone added another 10. Utahs Pam Andersen shot 22 points in the contest, while teammate Barbara Timper hit for 21 points. Year's first sport shoot coming up Gary Jackson, president, announces the first rifle, pistol and shotgun shoot will be sponsored by Dixie Wildlife Federation at the Federation grounds Sunday, February 20. The competition will be open to all, with organization membership not a requirement. Starting time will be 9:30 a.m. beginning first year in competitive women's sports DHS Dixie High School is beginning its first year in competitive womens sports and they have begun with a bang. In region eleven there are only two schools competing, Dix ie and Cedar. The girls basketball team have clinched their berth at the state tournament by soundly defeating the Cedar Redgirls twice.
