H. Zuidema who will command the Southern Utah installation. Major Zuidema and other officers from Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport, Louisiana, have been in St.f George conferring with city officials on housing and construction plans. "Military personnel manning the installation will be dependent upon St. George citizenry for much of their subsistence, Major Zuidema stated. "Our 75 military people and their families will live in town; their children will attend the local schools, go to the local doctors and dentists and, in general, become an integral part of the community." The highly skilled military personnel will maintain the electronic equipment in accordance with military regulation but, the necessary power to operate the equipment will be supplied by the local electric power company. Government contracts to construct the installation already have been let to western firms. Primary purpose of the installation, which will operate 24 hours a day, is to electronically track bombers. This will necessitate the presence of large jet aircraft such as and 30.
