Frank thinks it was the work of vandals rather than criminals because a preliminary check with the police revealed that the Rinaldis silverware and other items of value had not been taken. . The highlight of the reunion for Frank came when Superintendent Walden Gurney presented him with his football letter which had been denied him by the school administration, 50 years ago. LaVar Tate, who served as Master of Ceremonies during the entire affair, Ray Morgan, Joe Jette, Coach Sterl Harris, Joe Lacey and Andy Roberts travelled to Centerville during the reunion and presented Beth LaBelle, widow of Hal LaBelle with the souvenirs presented to those attending the reunion. Souvenirs and momentos the honored guests received included purple jackets with appropriate insignia, gold keys to the city, a me- morable souvenir program, framed certificates, clock-bal- l point pens, golden name plates, miniature footballs, and special handmade (by Geneve Buys) cera- mic Buffaloes. Note: In 1933 Tooele had not adopted an official nickname, but were known as the ' I ; fS Krft fir a, firj ImS Veftottl Wrap-U- p Harrlsmen, Smeltermen, or Foreigners, and this presentation officially made the team members, -- Buffaloes." Way back in 1933, Sam Orme gave his championship medal to Blanche Arthur, who at that time was his girl friend. Blanche kept the medal for 50 years and it was returned to Sam during the reunion. Some of the members of that team became separated shortly after the school year, and hadnt seen each other during the entire span of 50 years, from 1933 until the 1983 reunion. Despite the long separation, not one of them had to be introduced to the other, they recognized each other on sight. This wasnt an entirely onesided show; the honored guests expressed their appreciation in many ways. Joel Dunn, publisher of the sponsoring Tooele Transcriwas presented a pt-Bulletin framed citation making him the official ball boy for the 1933 team. Andy Roberts was also presented a framed citation designating him as the teams mascot, and Coach Sterl Harris received a golden bust of himself, a cowboy hat and shirt as gifts from the team. 1933 was the heighth of the de- pression, and the championship trophy, a silver football did not have the names of the players engraved on it. That little oversight was corrected during the reunion, and now the names of the members of that team are engraved on the trophy. "It was one of the highlights of my life, Coach Harris remarked. And Coach Harriss comment has been many times since the Golden Anniversary of Tooele 1933 football championship. Perhaps it was more than just a coincidence that during the reunion the 1983 football team won its only game of the year. In the rash of publicity that accompanied the event there were several loose items that were not publicized. We would be remiss to exclude those items, so we will just pick them up here.
