I,;..) r FPW Y t ELECTRONIC :S A possible water audit and a request by rural residents that their street lights be reignited were the major issues in Wednesdays Tooele City Council meeting. After a slide presentation from Community Consultants, Inc., a consulting engineering firm out of Provo that analyzes where water loss occurs in distribution, the company presented their services in a water audit for $74,000. After a survey recently done in the city by the firm, it has been determined the city is selling 57 percent of its water supply, leaving 43 percent unaccounted for. This loss is amounting to $300,000 - $400,000 in possible revenue for the city. The firm is presently doing some preliminary valve work and has determined that 99 percent of the citys meters are functioning. The loss is probably related to underground leaks and meter inaccuracies. After the audit, it would then be determined if fixing the system would cost more than the additional .revenue The possibility of an audit is being examined further by O MorjUEflji vuifmrrv 1 Mayor Cluff. A petition to turn on the lights of five city streets was presented by Melvin Dunn and Ken Gowans with 177 of their neighbors signatures. The streets affected are: 320 West, 360 West, Fairlane Drive, Second West (South) and Pioneer Avenue. Mr. Dunn said the streets receive a lot of foot traffic from area school HI oft ipntiH 'CImjj. 0, - client children and residents in those streets are fearful of increased crime resulting from lack of lighting. The 50 lights were turned off on a trial basis after a request by the city council to cut $10,000 from the lighting budget. The council voted that all superfluous lights be eliminated about 15 and the rest be turned back on.To make this financially affordable, the mayor reminded the council the city will have to make a budget cut elsewhere. In other council business, the mayor will be studying the possibility of getting some seven businesses located in the manufacturing park on North Main together on an improvement committee to Winterchess, the winter chess festival, is scheduled for January 15 at the Tooele County Courthouse.
