This score d was a score. In two carries Bruce carried the ball to the SR four-yar- d line. White got one score up the middle, and then Bruce lofted a scoring pass to Jeff Brothers who made a leaping catch in the end zone. Bruce then passed to White for a two point conversion as the score mounted to 21-The final tally for the Mustangs came in the third period after South Rich missed on a fourth down play giving Dugway the ball on the Dugway 39 yard line. Bruce rambled for 13 yards. Two penalties set Dugway back, before Morton broke loose for a run and a first down on the SR four yard line. On fourth down, White blasted into the end zoneto give Dugway a 27-- 0 lead and the game. Darby McLean and Wayne Weston proved to be hard plungers, but the Dugway defense held them in check throughout the contest. The best play for the Trojans was a 20 yard scamper by Weston early in the game. Dugway amassed 292 yards from scrimmage as compared to just 82 for SR. Just how thoroughly effective the Dugway defease was is illustrated by the fact that in 32 rushes at the Dugway line. South Rich was able to net just 52 yards for a 1.6 yard average gain. Offeasively Morton averaged 9.2 yards for the 14 times he carried the ball; White hammered out 64 yards in the 18 times he lugged the leather, and Bruce added another 73 yards in 10 carries. Each of them gaining more yardage than the entire SR team. Bruce had his best game of the year, adding a fumble recovery, and two intercepted passes to his collection and completing two of five passes, including a TD heave. Dugway will travel to Altamont next Friday for a practice game before completing its league play, Oct. 21, at South Rich. The impressive Dugway win set the stage for a victorious homecoming dance that followed the game. The talent-lade- n Mustangs scored in about every way imaginable, getting one touchdown at the end of a 76 yard drive, another on a short drive, a long 32 yard pitch out, and another on a pass. Score number one came in the first period on Dugway s second possession. Beginning on its own 24 yard line, Dugway marched 76 yards in seven plays to get the score. Larry White, Dugway s man, and Levi Morton, Dugway s outside speedster did most of the work, with the big gainer being Mortons 24 yard gallop. VVhite got the score from three yards out. Steve Lundy kicked the extra point and Dugway led 0 with 332 left in the first quarter. Dugway s next score was a present from quarterback Steve Bruce who recovered a SR fumble on the Trojan 32 yard line. Wasting no time, on the first play, Bruce laterallcd to Morton and Morton outraced the SR defenders and pranced 32 yards for the score, giving Dugway a 13-- 0 lead. Touchdown numlier three was also a present from Bruce. This time the score was set up when Bmce intercepted a Jim u the top without a single defeat the accomplishment becomes even more remarkable. And that is just what Mary Lynn Thornton of Grantsville has done in the sport of tennis. Miss Thornton blitzed through nine opponents in dual and Region meets and lost just one set in the process. That set loss came at the hands of a girl from Judge Memorial who carried Mary Lynn to three sets before Mary Lynn emerged victorious. Thorntons win over the JM player was the only win Grantsville was able to earn as the Cowgirls suffered their first and only defeat of the year. Normally Mary Lynn played in the number two singles spot, but on at least one occasion she moved up into the number one singles spot, but it made no difference, Mary Lynn won there too. During the year in formal competition, dual, region and state matches Miss Thornton played 25 sets of tennis and lost just one set and no ' lut ..3L-J- -- . r ,a V .JL - Golfer s Miss Chance To Catch To rise to the top in any sport is a difficult and significant accomplishment.
