The chairman of the City Council, while acting as Mayor under this section shall retain his position on the City Council. The member of the City Council who is chosen to act as temporary ' Mayor shall temporarily forfeit his position on the City Council while acting as Mayor, but shall be reinstated to his former position on the Council, if his term has not previously expired, upon election of the interim Mayor at the next regular municipal election.
