While the area may suffer from somewhat of an identity crisis throughout Utah, the county is abundantly rich in history. THE NATIONAL Register alone has five Tooele County sites listed on its prestigious pages. In addition tc those sites there are numerous other landmarks scattered across the county that will raise the eyebrows of history buffs and laymen alike. The five National Register locations include: the E.T. Benson sawmill, near Mills Junction; The Bonneville Salt Flats, three miles east of Wend-ovelosepa Cemetery in Skull Valley; The Wend-ove- r Air Base; and the Lincoln Highway Bridge, located on the Dugway Proving Ground. Do you know where the first group of Tooele City settlers began their homes? Who attended the dedication of the old First Ward chapel? Where was the first mining camp in Utah and the first electric light in the state? Have you ever strolled through the countys museum? Where was the first county seat in Tooele? IF YOU answered no to any of these questions, a trip through historic Tooele County may be the cure when you are hit with the summertime r; blues. Black Rock, an isolated rock about 90 feet and 40 feet wide, rests a few feet west of the long line separating Tooele and Salt Lake Counties on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. Heber C. Kimball, one of the original apostles of the LDS Church, built a rock house near Black Rock in 1860. It was used as a ranch house for se1. veral years. 2.
