Thundering, thundering, all along the way. XT I love a parade! I love a parade because it usually has a band or two in it! I love a parade that has a band in it because bands are so upbeat. HAVE you ever heard a band that didnt set your spirits soar- ing? that didnt set your toe tapping, your feet itching to get moving, your heart to beating? and all of them in rhythm with the beat. I love bands of all kinds and sizes, but I especially love the Grantsville Cowboy Marching Band. As bands go, it is small, but this band doesnt need to be large. The Cowboys make up for it in sound and personality. It is one of the peppiest bands around. Wherever this band goes, it stands out. Its red and white uniform catches the eye first, and then the onlooker is caught up in the sheer vitality of the group. WATCHING them perform, you just know that here is an harmonious, accomplished well-traine- d, group of musicians. You cant say that about every band, you know. This year marks the tenth anniversary since Mr. Javens took over as leader of the Cowboy band. Under his baton, the pres- tige and expertise of the group Oom-pa- oom-pa- have grown - the Cowboy march- ing band has made a name for itself. And the name Jim Javens joins the other greats in Grants-ville- s Musicians Hall of Fame. t. They are a happening going to a happening. You see them at football and basketball games, at pep rallys and other pep promot-in- g events. , come up with a second place. They are perennial favorites at Dixie Days in St. George. Since the band has a policy of never turning down a request to perform if possible, there is something going on all the time. If it isnt a concert at the elementary school or the high school, its a flag raising ceremony, or its Landmark the Days, Armed Forces Day or other events. THE kids in the Cowboy band are the cream of the crop. They are the top students, the active church members, the high achievers - the best. They not only are smart-lookin- g, smart. Its they ARE no wonder. Behind this great band there has always been a great band booster club. Die latest group, chaired by Mrs. Karen Johnson, has been terrific, and are busy making plans for the Second Annual Band Days sometime in June. Of course theres more to a band than its members and their leader, or even its booster club. There are the townspeople. Grantsville is proud of its band. We have a right to be proud. HAVING a band does something for a town. It does something for me. Hie band stands for all die good things I feel for my home town. I love a parade! I hope there are parades in heaven. It would be a pretty bleak place without a parade and a band. Anyway, when it comes my time to find out, no sad dirge for me. I want to have a toe tapping, finger snapping, high stepping send-of- f by a band - by the Grantsville Cowboys Marching Band. |
