They include green onions, lettuce, and other salad greens, radishes, tomatoes (except as juice or cooked). To retain highest quality in frozen food, packaging materials should Ire moisture- - vapor- - proof, to prevent evaporation. Pack food and syrup cold into containers. Having materials cold speeds up freezing and helps retain natural color, flavor, and texture of food. Pack foods tightly to cut down on the amount of air in the package ltefore you secure it for the freezer. FAMILY CONSERVATION PLAN Children leam ways of doing things and form habits through imitating you and through repetition of certain acts. They can leam energy conservation habits just as easily as they can leam waisteful ones. Many wasteful habits adults are now trying to change were learned before they can even remember. Most people learned to use energy resources without consideration of running out, or even becoming scarce. Attitudes about conservation are important in teaching your children to use with care. You must believe that the shortages are not temporary. You must believe that in order to give tomorrows citizens, your children, a world that is liveable we must all respect the energy crisis and use only what is necessary. A family can sit down and make a list of ways to conserve energy. Together it becomes a family project. Conservation is something we practice in our family, you and your children can proudly say. We turn out extra lights, we keep the temperature down, we wear sweaters to stay warm, we reuse containers, we buy toys, we limit showers to 2 minutes, we dont run the water all the while we brush our teeth, we dont just talk about saving energy, we do it. Add this to your list: We keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator so we dont have to run the water to get a chilled drink. We shake the bottle beair in it so that it doesn t fore to non-plast- incorporate serving taste flat. You probably have five or ten more ways you can conserve energy in your home. Join your family now in a conserving life style. DID YOU KNOW? a fireplace does not save money? . . . that using or fuel either? According to the US Department of Agriculture, there often is a greater heating cost when from the furnace you use the fireplace because the heat is lost up the flue after the fire goes out. However, if close the damper you keep the fire going all night and as soon as possible after the fire is out you may still win. So apparently open fireplaces are only about 10 percent efficient. . . the rest goes up the chimney. On a cold day in February, serve this hearty soup.
