Klrner J. Sniitli. Director of the Veterans Administration Regional Ofltce lit Salt like City pointed out that the V has lHen receiving many telephone calls and applications for a nonexistent. sMcial dividend, supposedly available to World War II veterans on their (II life insurance. Many leaflets have liecn distributed, whitli allege that there is a dividend of 50 tents per fl.OlXi on Cl insurance for each month of service, even though the insurance tnav have lieen dropped right after World War II. Mr. Smith wants to alert all the World War II veterans, as well as their dependents or survivors, that this information is totally erroneous and is a cruel hoax that is not only raising false hopes, but also results in thousands of applications and calls g received by the VA across the nation. There was a special dividend paid to World War II policy holders in 1918 and 1951. Rut since that time, during the past 22 years the records have lieen entirely screened and there are no unpaid dividends. The Regional Office Director indicated that World War II policy holders will lie entitled to their regular 193 dividend if their policy is still in force. No special application is necessary for this regular dividend. It will lie paid automatically. lie-in- : The expanded role of nurses in medical programs for veter- ans is speeding up admission to VA hospitals and helping pro- vide better medical care. Q. My father is in a nursin home. What proof does he need to be eligible for the special allowance for veterans who need regular aid and attendance? A. A STATEMENT from the director or custodian of records of a nursing home that the claimant is a patient who requires nursing home care, or a certification by a private physician stating why care is required will be accepted as evidence for the need for aid and attendance. Q. During the Christmas season, I realized that as a World War II veteran family we should be doing something to help the young veterans returning from Vietnam, especially the ones who are injured and sick. What can my wife and I do to help? A. Telephone or visit the chief of voluntary service at the nearest VA hospital. There are many voluntary services that persons from the elderly to teenagers can do to make life better for hospitalized veterans. Q. MY BROTHER is a Vietnam Era veteran and our doctor says he is mentally ill and needs treatment. We want to put him in a VA hospital, but there is1 some question about whether his sickness is service connected. If it isnt will VA help him? A. Yes. Rehabilitation at VA hospitals and through use of the GI Bill is part of VA care for connected psychiatric non-servi- patients. ,or of t,le (15-176- Veterans!
