Mr. Barnett said that "this record performance in 1972 was achieved hv higher earnings from all of the Corporation's Business areas: transportation, natural resources and laud development. Earnings also svere favorably affected by investment la credits and lower interest costs. An increase of II per lent in freight revenues reflected strong recovery from the 1971 rail, coal and dock strikes, all of which severely depressed operating results in that year. Commodity traffic that increased sulistan-tiall- y in 1972 included automobiles, lumlier. iron ore, coal, soda ash and wheat. Stringent cost control measures and increased oKrating efficiency were necessary to achieve the overall increase in transportation earnings since the gain from freight rate increases fell far short of offsetting the cost of higher wages and lienefits. .. BANK CHARGE CARD INSTANT Interstate sion and CREDIT Program Changes For Food Stamp ANOTHER UNBEATABLE The Director of the Utah Food Stamp Program, Allan Schwartz, announced today that a new procedure for purchasing food stamps will be initiated on February 1. Instead of the two cards now being received by those authorized to purchase stamps, a single card will be issued, good for only one purchase during the month. Those families desiring to purchase food stamps more often than once a month must go in person to their Assistance Payments Offices during the month of January and request the option to purchase twice a month. When asked why the changes were necessary, the Director stated: The present system has resulted in errors because of the difficulty in reading carbon copies, over 95 percent of the. food stamp buyers bought only once a month, and that the card and duplicate card system was confusing and caused administrative problems in handling. The new system will be less expensive and result in faster issuance of . SUNSET SPECIAL VALUE! SKI PARKA A SPECIAL VALUE FROM SUNSETS SALE! MENS WEAR DEPARTMENT! MENS MENS CORDUROY LADIES . This is the first time any of us can remember that within the first 24 hours after a major snow storm our street has been cleaned. Our street lies between Vine Street and Highland Drive and usually the plows go up and down these but never come up our short street on which there are only six houses until the next day or even later. We all realize snow causes many problems and removal of the white stuff is a major one, but again we would like to say thanks to the operator for getting our street as soon as he did, and from what I hear many of the streets were plowed better and sooner after the snow on the 19th of January.
