A New Jersey study showed that 65.5 per cent of all fatal accidents on the states Turnpike involved cars running into the rear of slow moving trucks. To help combat the problem, many companies are now using reflective paint striping to span the trucks width, outlining its size and enabling night time motorists to estimate distances better. This theory is known as area reflectorization," as compared with "point reflectorization where many small reflectors are used. Greyhound, after adopting the reflective system, found that collisions night time rear-en-d were reduced 14 per cent in the first year and an additional 18 per cent the following year. The magazine reported a test by the Post Office of 7,000 trucks. Half were the olive drab trucks formerly used; half were the red- - white- - and- - blue trucks now used, with a red reflective strip as the red part of the truck. The olive drab trucks had 50 night time rear- - end crashes during the test; the trucks had only 24. Two side benefits of truck or bus reflectorization have been reflective the found. First, markings help some to alleviate the problem of highway hypnosis at night. Also, the trucks or buses serve as cross- - country billboards for the company, even at night. er muln-colore- of buildings Thiokol Chemical Corporation's great Minuteman missile plant.) Im referring to your statement that living at home is cheaper for someone going to college. I feel if you go sway to allege, it's a great experience in itself. Another thing, if a girl lives at home, she has a chance to fool around more than if she were living on campus. Money isn't everything. I'm sure the writers parents want her to be happy and if being happy means she has to go away to college, she should go away. The place you like Is the place you will do your best job. - -- Interested Bystander. Dear I.B.: You write a nice Informative letter but you stuff iff the money angle as If It didnt exist. The average college education cost $4,000 and If, over a two-yeperiod, that amount might be trimmed by some $2,000 theres no argument. Maybe Im wrong, but you talk like a girl who hasnt done the first thing toward earning any of her college funds. first- - year Many colleges, of course, enforce a rule that students must live on campus but on the other hand, too many fathers today are holding down second jobs and too many mothers are doing without In order to send their kids to colshould be lege. If those kids can help lighten the burden, they proud to do so. Dear High School Graduates: Quite a number of you have applied for the two $300 college scholarships were offering but too many of you are only saying, "I would like a scholarship and signing your name. The scholarships will go to the two most deserving 1963 graduates and if you don't give us your background, we cant even consider your short notes. Dear Dan: Lately all the boys I've been dating have been doing their best to con me into petting. Im 16 and dont think that petting is something you can be talked into. Instead, its something that should be shared with a person you really like. because Ive never petted before and Am I very think this way? - Judie. Dear Judie: Youre not (and what is but before you go out on your next date, youd better understand the definition of the word "petting. I dont know your version of the word but when a girl allows a boy to pet her, shes giving him the green light to be free and easy with his hands from her neck on down. That, dear girl, is petting. Dear Dan; My friend and I would like to have pen pals of 13 and 14. We like horseback riding, skating and other sports. Our names and addresses are: Katy Hatton, 1840 Alden Ave., 1945 Norman Avenue, Alliance, Ohio and Lynette Hornsby, Alliance, Ohio. Der Dan: My boy friend just bought himself a new car . and you dont know how badly I feel. Its like as if hes a different person. He rides other girls around all the time and twice in the past week hes broken dates with me. Im stupid, I guess, but I still like him and I want to know if theres any chance he will soon settle down? R.N.N, Dear R.N.N.: Of course, hell settle down but you would be silly waiting around to pick up the pieces. I can understand g with his first car but theres no excuse for his the treatment youre being given.
