As a consequence," said Director Burton, it has been decided by all parties involved to proceed with construction of the Interstate Highway on its originally proposed location which is generally south of and adjacent to the Western Pacific Railroad, travelling around the southern shore of the Great Salt Lake. Mr. Burton added, This work should be advertised for bids within two or three months." THE HIGHWAY Department, the newly created Great Salt Lake Authority, the State Land the Kennecott Board, Copper Corporation and others, should continue to explore the construction of a recreational road across the Great Salt Lake. . Such a road would not have the problems of limited access as the Interstate would have. A recreational road could be built to provide special accommodations for beaches, boating and scenic uses. A fine new recreational resource could be created for the State, states Mr. Burton. Within the pressure of a time requirement, an orderly consideration of all factors can be made by the proper agencies of the economics of using fill materials for the possible construction of a recreational road acrosss the Great Salt Lake."
