AS REPORTED bv the Department on 2) July,' corn accounted for the major decline in feed grain storks, with a 12 per cent drop below the July record holdings of a sear ago. Harley showed the sharpest percentage decline for the feed grains, with 20 per cent smaller stocks: sorghum grain stocks were one per cent smaller. These declines, plus a 15 per cent decrease in oats, gave an accuhuila'ed decrease of 10 per cent in total feed g:ain tonnage. Carryout stocks of wheat were eight per cent below the record s of the previous year. dn Just how well the current "diversion programs for feed, and wheat are acgrains of their main one complishing objectives is indicated by the Department of Agricultures 24 July report on Stocks of Grain in All recently rePositions, ceived at the Agricultural Stabilization and Consenation Service Countv Office. THE REPORT showed that 1 July stocks of feed grains and wheat were significantly below the previous year. For feed grains, this marks the first decline for 1 July since 1952. According to Allen Warr, chair-an- d Conservation County Corn-maStabilization Agricultural and Conservation County Comthis report on grain mittee, stocks is in marked contrast to last years which showed wheat and feed grain stocks hitting new highs. For wheat, 1961 was the third consecutive year the previous record had been broken. This year, however, the 1 July n, grain stocks report clearly reflects the results of the diversion . nar'icularly for feed which got under way In grains, the spring of 1961. Former Tooeleatt Featured In Plane Flight A former Tooelean was featured in the news recently as the pilot of an Atomic Energy Commission airplane, used for radiation detection during the uranium boom. THE PLANE piloted by Joe Spry, took its last flight from Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colorado, to the Smithsonian Institute. Joe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe E. Spry, of 93 Pinehurst Ave., and was a student at the Tooele High School. The plane which was turned over to the Institute by the Af.C has a history dating back to 193 when the AEC inaugurated a program of aerial survey employed at various times for checking areas of radiation, from the air at low levels 25 to 50 feet. The program was aimed at uranium successfully locating dopo tits as a stimulus to individual prospecting. THE PLANE the last of its kind in the program, had covered 81,000 square miles of territory. It will take its place at the Institute beside such notable aircraft as Lindbergs c Ryan and the Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk.
