The legislation also included $3.1 million for emergency watershed protection in I 'tah. which will help support watershed protection projects resulting from recent natural disasters, such as drought, fires and Hoods. "Todays announcement marks the first program rollout under disaster legislation that provides more than $3 billion m relief to farmers, ranchers, foresters and agriculture related businesses that suffered losses due to severe weather conditions in recent years," said Veneman discussing the national funding earlier this week in North Carolina. ECP helps farmers and ranchers rehabilitate farm- land damaged by severe weather. The program is especially important in l'tah because it provides financial and technical assistance to help producers provide water to livestock on rangeland, build or repair watering holes for both livestock and wildlife, and increase the capacities of wells. This drought relief will also help the Utah Farm Service Agency (FSA) minimize the backlog of pending projects and may also help fund new projects.
