South First Baptist Church Before I get into this months devotion, my family and I want to extend a warm and heartfelt thanks to everyone in the community and at First Baptist Church. First Baptist Church is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month! Ten years ago our family was privileged to be used of the Lord to start this church. I have had the great God given privilege and opportunity to Pastor this church from the beginning. God has been so good and we have seen many folks come to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior and be gloriously saved! I believe I can speak for our church and my family when I say if only one person was saved over the last 10 years, it would have been worth it. We look forward to many more years and if the Lord tarries may He continue to use us to change peoples lives for His glory and all eternity! James employs an interesting simile, a man looking at his face in a mirror. He sees that its dirty, but he does nothing about it. He might just as well have not looked into the mirror. What should we do then? How should we use Gods Word as a mirror? Well, we should peer into it, as is the meaning of the words beholding, beholdeth We should look at and looketh in w. 23-2- ourselves, not casually, but we should see what we otherwise would not see. Spiritually, the mirror of the Word reveals us as individuals. When we look into the Word of God, we can see ourselves as God sees us, in need of a Saviour. Secondly, the mirror reveals our iniquities. Our sins and failures in life are at once made visible James says in v. 2 1, Wherefore, lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. In other words, when you see dirt on your face, clean it off, deal with it, and use plenty of soap and water (2 Corinthians 7:1; 1 John 1:9). Not only does the mirror reveal our iniquities, but the mirror of the Word of God is the instrument used by the Holy Spirit to bring about the miracle of regeneration. As we hear the Word of God, we are to receive it with meekness and use it as a mirror to adjust our lives accordingly. That would result in blessings all the way. And once recognizing what the Word says, we are not only to hear it, but to do it. That which is heard in the holy place, must be lived in the market place. The Bible says that for us to receive eternal life, we must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. Then God makes us a new creature in Christ Jesus and that new creature will begin to show itself. and see our wide selection of healthy trees and plants!
