The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program, while open to anyone 18 years of age and older, is primarily aimed at women, said RaLynne Takeda, whose work with the Division of Wildlife Resources includes serving as the programs coordinator. The weekend is an opportu-nit- y to learn skills related to 35 ''4 i v?t hunting, angling and outdoor recreation, such as basic camping; campfire cooking; taking children outdoors; canoeing; fei i horsemanship; muzzleloader, rifle, and shotgun shooting; basic fishing; fly fishing; orienteering outdoor photography and many others, she said. While most instructors will be Division of Wildlife Resources staff, some will be volunteers from the ranks of Utahs sports-- . men and sportswomen. The goal of the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program is to ' provide opportunities for women to learn skills that enhance and encourage participation in hunting, angling and other outdoor activities, she said. The workshops curriculum is divided equally among hunting and shooting-relatefishing, and activities. Learning is done in an atmosphere that encourages camaraderie and fun, Takeda said. The workshop is not designed to recruit individuals who have no interest in outdoor activities, but rather remove obstacles for those who are sincerely interested. The watch word for the weekend is fun, she said. In addition to the skills sessions there will be an outdoor fashion show, line dancing classes and a presentation by the Divisions Law Enforcement Secd, non-harve- st m ' --- --- i tion. Cost of the program is $150, which includes meals, lodging, instruction and use of equipment.
