South First Baptist Church The story of the prophet Elisha and the Shunammite woman provides us with a great exam- of various attributes a ser- vant of God should exhibit, First, she was Fearing God. The Bible says she was a mgreat woman; one who was notable, respected, or worthy of praise. For God to call her a mgreat woman, she had to be one who fetured the Lord. Charm is deceitful and beau- ty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. (Pro. 31:30) The Shunam- y woman be- mite woman was a God! was also she feared Second, cause she God will have we fear we When God. Serving a desire to Serve Him. The Bible says she 'con- strained Elisha. She strongly urged him to stay and eat with them and to rest It was not a service, but one of consistency as that often as he passed by. We see in vv. was toward others not herself. She her was selfless in her service. We too can 'serve God by serving others. It is a service that has no barriers of class, race, gender, or spiritual She also possessed condition. (Mat. 25:31-40- ) (p. 9) God gives discern- ment to those who fear and serve Him. The Shunammite woman said, perceive that this is an holy man of God,.. This is consistent with the rest of the Bible. Pro. 1:7 says, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning principle parti of discernment. As we consistently and God serve study His Word the Bible, He praise-worth- 9-1- 1, piipmuint t . will give us His discernment and we will be learning truth. (Joh. 1 7:1 7) Knowing the truth enables us to discern the false and evil, and lows us to better serve and represent the Lord before men. The Shunammite woman had much discernment and she used it to glorify God. She was also Humble before the Lord. One who fears the Lord and consistently serves him not only is given discernment, but is humble and content with what the Lord has given him. She was content with her position in life and living with her own people, (v. 13) She did not seek temporal power or position, but her desire was to do the will of her LORD. We who are saved must do the same. I think of one man I know who gave up a promotion in order to stay and serve God in his local church. Another man resigned his job and moved his kids to a smaller town and into a Bible teaching church and tian school. We must desire Gods will for our lives more than possessions and positions. The Shunammite woman teaches us that a servant of the Lord is one who has put all their faith and trust in Him and by Gods grace has received eternal life through Jesus finished work on the cross. The servant of God is Fearing and ing the Lord with Godly Discernment and a Humble heart. It you have never put your faith in Jesus and Jesus alone, I would invite you to do so now. Confess to God your sin and express your desire to receive Christ as your personal Savior. The Bible says in Rom. 10:13, For soever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. al-p- le Chris-haphaza- rd B) Bank One will lend you up to 100 afyour home equity. llfhats yourhorns worth?
