This was quite an extensive project, looking at many aspects of the organization and operation of a business. The students were given the option of creating a new business or taking as existing one and making alterations to fit the product that they would be selling. This project proved to be very interesting and rewarding for the students. Various forms of advertising were created including a handbill, a billboard sign, product packaging, a product logo and a video commercial. The students particularly enjoyed planning, taping and viewing the video productions. Some of the newly organized an excellent job. Leticia Pizzino, a storyteller presented an assembly at the Middle School Friday, February 23. She told many lively stories pertaining to Utahs statehood and also entertained the students by playing unique instruments. She sang many songs and even enticed the students to sing along. The test has been administered in the state of Utah by legislative mandate for the last six years at the fifth, eighth and eleventh grades in all public Schools in the state. Scores are reported as median national percentile ranks. If a school has a median score of the 56th percentile, it would signify that the typical student in that school scored better than 56 percent of the students who took the test nationally when it was normed. Concluding its discussion on the fifth grade, the report continues, Mathematics is the subject in which the fifth grade scored highest. For the third straight year the fifth grade has scored a 60. This is an excellent score, though lower than the 62 scored in 1991 and 1992. Eighth grade students in Utah improved their total basic battery score from 50 to 51 be- - tween 1994 and 1995. However, the 1995 score of 51 is still below the high of 53 attained in 1992. The report points out that eighth grade students improved their test scores in two subjects as well as in their total basic battery. After five years at 45, languageEnglish scores increased to 48. Although this improvement is significant, Utah eighth grade students are still scoring below the national norm of 50. Eighth grade science scores reached an impressive 58 in 1995, a 1994. five-poi- nt increase over Eleventh grade test scores continue to be the brightest spot of the three grades in Utah, states Christensen.
