The new policy opens the universitys doors to more trans- w fer students, said President Arthur K. Smith. Jt ti The University of Utah wants to be helpful to students who transfer here, Smith said. This new policy will open the university to more students in Utah and across the country,' who ,haVe worked hard to obtain their associate degrees. The U. used to consider only college parallel associate degrees from accredited public community colleges as meeting all lower division liberal education requirements. The university used to evaluate credit transferred from other accredited col- basis for leges on a eral education credits. With the new policy, recently approved by the Credits and Admissions Committee, that has changed, said L. Kay Harward, assistant dean of student affairs and services. Any student with a college parallel associate degree, resident or nonresident, can now transfer to the University of Utah and we will extend them the same courtesy, Harward said. Locally the new policy will allow students from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City and Ricks College in Idaho to transfer more easily to the U.
