O By Myrna Trauntvein Times-New- s Correspondent The Mickelson Subdivision received permission to reduce the number of lots proposed for development by allowing the project to be constructed in phases. The project had been presented two weeks ago for consideration but could not be voted on at the time because there was not a full quorum without council member Jens Mickelsons vote. Mickelson, of course, could not vote be- cause of his personal interest in the project. The amended plat would reduce the number oflots to be developed by allowing a first phase," said Robert Steele, Nephi Mayor. Building permits could be issued after approval is given." Council members agreed to allow the amended plat and the building of the proposed subdivision in stages. Randy McKnight, city administrator, said the building permits for the first phase could be issued after the subdivision improvements are completed or guaranteed by appropriate bond. The amended plat will allow the Mickelson subdivision to sell four lots which edge the middle school property in northeast Nephi. Subdivision ordinances require the improvement of all lots in the subdivision before building lots can be sold, said McKnight. The amendment allows Mickelson to sell four lots around the perimeter of the high school, he said. Nephi City Planning Commission has recommended a public hearing be held to receive public comment on a zone change request. Jim McWilliams, Andrew McPherson and Randy Freston, who is engineering the project, met with the Nephi City Council on Tuesday to request a zone change to accommodate a proposed mobile home park. City council members agreed to set the hearing for May 30 at 6 p.m. The council will take public comment at that time but will not make a decision on the zoning until June 6, a regularly scheduled council meeting. Part of the property is zoned to allow the construction of a mobile home park," explained Randy McKnight, city administrator. Part of the property needed for the project is not zoned to allow mobile home housing." McWilliams and McPherson would like all the property zoned to allow the Citfeen commiMse Appointed! housing. Currently part of the property is zoned R-- 2 and is located east of4th East Street south of 700 south in the area known locally as Turkey Hill. I would like the of all our department heads before making a decision, said Milt Harmon, city administrator. Nephi City Council members reviewed an amended plat for the Lynnwood subdivision in northeast in-p- ut Nephi. The subdivision amended plat included a change in the road and proposed phasing to complete the project. Lynnwood Subdivision is located at the end of 8th East. It is the property located between Juab High School east parking lot and the freeway on the north side of 7th North. DeVon Winn owns the property just east of the parking lot and the subdivision would be on the east side of the Winn property on property owned by Wes Lynn. The planning commission recommended the adoption of the amended plat, said Robert Steele, Nephi mayor. Council member Milt Harmon made the motion to approve the Lynnwood Subdivision plan to include changes to be recommended by the planning commission including phasing when a final amended plat is brought to the council. Lynn is considering changing some further road locations. The revised plan presented tonight changed the angle of one road in the subdivision to make a lot where a home has been built larger See Nephi City Council on page 3 Ute Stampede Queen tryouts tonight at 6 p.m. By Myrna Trauntvein Times-New- s Correspondent Twenty East Juab County patrons of Juab School District have been serving on an ad hoc citizens advisory committee on Juab School District building needs. Chad Bowles, Reed Finch, Patricia Ferguson, Vicki Jackson, Diane Jacobsen, Wayne Jarrett, Marvin Kenison, Clark Newell, Ed Newton, LaDaun Ray, Alan Sperry, Lee Spring, LouAnn Thalman, Carol Tbmpkins, Ken Ware, Yard White, Chad Winn, Lon Wickel, Rex Bailey, and Dale Fowkes (ex officio member) have been appointed to serve on the committee. The goals of the committee, said Kirk Wright, superintendent, are to study enrollment trends of the district, accu mulate data on student population and growth, to study what the building needs will be for the next five to ten years, to make recommendations to the board on how to meet those needs through building programs and building scheduling options. The committee, said Wright, was designed to be representative of the patrons of the district. While the board of education is the legal legislative body and will have final authority to make the decision on whether to build new buildings or to schedule better use of existing facilities, said Wright, the board will give serious consideration to the report submitted by the citizens advisory committee. The board is asking that the committee have its recommendations ready by June 1, 1995, said Leon Pexton, board chair. Juab School District Board members appointed two board members and two staff members to represent the school board on the district negotiating team. It has been a tradition that the board president serve on the team, said Leon Pexton, president. However, he said, the tradition did not need to be observed. "Superintendent Kirk Wright serves as a resource person, said Pexton. It was decided that the board appoint Pexton and Dale Fowkes as board members on the team. Steve Olsen, middle school principal, and Tracy Olsen, board clerktreasurer, as staff members on the team. Last year, said Pexton, the same team served. Teachers will name the representatives from the teaching staff who will serve on the team. layouts for queen and attendants of the 1995 Ute Stampede will be held tonight (Wednesday, May 10th) at the Juab County Fairgrounds.
