Show Lance Bushnell named Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year CAC84U1 EXP. Lance L. Bushnell has been named Utah Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year. In addition, the troopers serving the Nephi area received a unit citation for outstandingper-formanc- e and commendatory accomplishment. This is the third year the unit has received such a citation. Bushnell works in Section 6, where the standard is 1,200 contacts and 12 DUI arrests per trooper. .Lance completed the year with total contacts' of over 2,500. He more than doubled the DUI requirement by arresting 3 1 drunk drivers, said UHP Sgt. Paul Mangelson. It is an honor to be recognized, not only by the Utah Highway Patrol, but by those closely associated with it, said Bushnell. The troopers received the honors Nov. 20 at the annual awards banquet held at Salt Lake City Community College. Bushnell received a large plaque in recognition of his achievements. The group also received a plaque. Trooper Bushnell is very successful in the' field of criminal interdiction, said Mangelson. He has studied and implemented the necessary techniques in apprehending the criminal element through traffic enforcement. In the past year, Bushnell has had over 50 felony arrests and many of those were significant drug seizures. He had 177 misdemeanor drug arrests for the year and, since his employment in 1987, has recovered 31 stolen vehicles and their drivers. Trooper Bushnell invests many hours of his own time by doing his reports at home and on bis own time, so that he has more time to work on the highway, said Mangelson.
