Show "FromWhere I Sit" By Allan R. Gibson Thanksgiving. The one holiday we set aside where we celebrate the blessings that we have. A day to celebrate family and friends, a day to gather and eiyoy good food and good companionship. So many of our holidays are ethnic or set aside to celebrate one idea, hertiage, or person. We have Christian holidays, Jewish holidays, pagan holidays, holidays to celebrate birthdays, holidays to honor our dead and even a holiday to honor the working people of our country, but Thanksgiving is a holiday we can all eiyoy as a people, as a state, as a county, no matter what religion, color, or ethic background we come from. Its a common holiday for all. From all ofus at the Gibson household, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. May you count your blessings in the company of family and friends and may your Turkey be moist and your cranberries the way you like them. One of my favorite people, Joyce McCaffery, brought me a plate of Danish Aebleskiver the other day. After making a pig of myself and eating all of them, I thought they were so good that I asked her for a recipe to share with you. They are cooked in a cast iron pan that is round and has round indentations in it. Tm told that can order them for you . 4-- DANISH AVELSKIVER OR AEBLESKIVER (Pronounced Ebleskiver) Joyce McCaffery My Grandmother Greens mother brought this recipe with her from Denmark in about 1905, along with her paa 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons soda 1 2 teaspoon salt tablespoons sugar 4 eggs, separated 4 cups buttermilk tablespoons butter or shortening (melted) 12 teaspoon (Cardamon (Danish spice) 8 In a large bowl beat egg whites until stiff. This is not just any baby, Dallen Jesse Kay, is Maurices grandchild and Quintons son, and the baby was born on his grandfathers and fathers shared birthday, Nov. 16. That makes three generations of Kay men born on the same day. I thought it was wonderful," said Maurice Kay. I thought it was a great birthday present." I was like Dad, said Quinton Kay, I thought it was a great birthday present. Maurices wife, Kathleen, said they had thought it was a good birthday present when Quinton was born onNov. 16 back in 1958. Even when Quinton was born, she said, his Dad was bragging about it. With a son and grandson born on the same day as he was, Maurice has more to brag about than the ordinary proud grandfather. Maurice and Dallen share a bit more than the same birthday. Both of them were bom at 1:30 p.m. although Maurice was born in 1931 and Dallen in 1991. Maurice weighed 9 pounds and Quinton weighed 8 pounds and 9 ounces. Dallen, however, wins the prize. His parents fourth child, Dallen weighed 10 pounds and 3.5 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. , This baby was born on the 16th and we didnt even cheat, said Reina Kay, Dallens mother. Dr. James A. Tattpn delivered the baby at Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi. Because Reina was slightly overdue and has such large babies, Dr. Tatton had planned on starting her labor the morning of Nov. 16, but it wasnt necessary. I started on my own. They were going to start me at 7 a.m. , said Reina, so we took our time getting to the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Kay dropped the children off at their grandparents home on their way to the hospital. Dallen seems to share the good nature of his father and grandfather, another thing they all have in common. Hes a good baby, said his mother. He never cries. Maurice Kay said the three of them would probably have to have two cakes to celebrate their combined birthdays from now on. He and Quintonhaveusually shared but, he said, he is getting too many candles now. With one more birthday there wont be enough room for all those candles. 4 |
