Oakley; three sons, Dave Crot-cheand Eric Crotchett, both Zone By Allan R. Gibson I always amazed to watch my fellow travelers as they cruise the freeways. There are as many ways to drive a car as people I guess. Last Thursday I had to go to the City for a meeting and as usual I got a little bored on the 1 12 hour drive. I was driving the speed limit but most cars going north were not. As they passed me one by one 1 started noticing what each was doing. . When you drive a big van like I do its easy to glance inside most other cars. I counted 8 people on the phone between Orem and SLC, very trendy these car phones; 4 young women talking with their hands as well as their mouths to other young women in the same car doing the same thing, I mean really describing what they were talking about with wild swinging gestures, I surprised that they were able to drive in a straight line; 2 guys shaving with their electric razors as they cruised into another days work in the city. One lucky young man with a young woman almost siting on his lap in a very wide seat of a delivery truck was the luckiest. Young love is wonderful and this was going to be his day. On the way home I decided to see how the rest of the world was and detoured at Springville onto the back roads. As a kid I remember going to the city with Roy and the trip took 2 to 2.5 hours. The back roads really bring those memories to mind. I even remembered where to turn in Santaquin after stopping to buy a large box of fresh Utah Valley apples from the back of a pickup. They were made sweeter by die price of $2.00 for the whole box at a time when apples at the store runs 590 per pound and 2 apples make up a pound. As I came through Mona, one really notices the changes. Not too many years ago the main road that used to see all the traffic between Salt Lake City and LA, only sees an occasional car and lots of kids on bike and big wheels. At the time the Freeway went around Mona, Tm sure a lot of folk thought that the town was going fold up and close, . but Til betcha that if Mona had to endure all the traffic again, the citizens would be up in arms. The company that is putting in the gas service in Nephi, Mona and Levan has been granted a extension to complete their work. I hear that the more than expected amount of hookups is the reason. It appears from this point of view that the city council was correct in the assumption that many people would switch and Mt. Fuel was incorrect in not bringing gas to our area 30 years ago. With the arrival of September, the shorter daylight hours are putting the damper on my morning bike ride. We are still riding, but now are confined to Main Street under the street lights. While the official time of sunrise is about 7:15 a.m., the sun doesnt peak over the eastern hills until almost 8 a.m. The last few mornings have seen temperatures in the middle and high 40s and the morning air has a distinct feel of chill in it as summer winds down and fall arrives. It wont be long until we will be talking about Halloween, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Over at my house my youngest is busy going through the catalogs than now seem to come daily and busy writing down her order for this or that for Christmas. By the time the good elf arrives in December Tm betting that her list will be about 4 feet long. Wilkerson said this information would be passed on to the third member of the family, and hoped it would explain the need for the proposed section of land needed for the road. Wilkerson said the family also has a concern that future members of the town board would not honor the variance promised the family for building permits on the three shortened lots. The mayor assured her that the agreement already is in the minutes of the July meeting of the board. To assure the family that the agreement is fully binding, however, the board again voted to approve a variance for any future building lot request for the three lots in question. The mayor also said a signed copy of the September minutes with the clerks stamp would be given to the Wilkerson family for their records.
