Four Juab High School boys participated in the state 2A track meet Saturday. Curtis Jones placed first in the high jump, with a jump of 6 feet 7 inches. Jones best jump during the year was 6 feet 4 inches, said Coach Joe Kelly. Thats quite an improvement in one day, but I knew all he had to do was get his timing down right and he would go higher, said Kelly. Corey Newell placed fourth in run with a time of the 2:03.98. Newell, a sophomore, finished behind three seniors and is expected to be a strong contender for next year, said Kelly. Mike Oliver placed fourth in the javelin, with a throw of 158 feet 5 inches. Mike has thrown it over 160 feet this year, but could not find that mark on Saturday," said Coach Kelly. The coach was pleased with the way the boys performed. We havent had a state champion in track for quite some time, and the team placed in the top 10 something we havent done in a long time, either, Kelly said. 800-met- er Subscribe to the Times-News!- ! |
