Show Department needs to shape up In our opinion. The . . recent appointment of Dave Carter to the position of sheriff has sparked heated arguments between the supporters of Carter and the supporters of the names of the other people submitted to the county commission for consideration. In our opinion, all candidates for the job had their strong and weak points. Further biased speculation and arguments cannot change this appointment and surely will hinder the role of law enforcement in Juab County. It is now time for each group to bind their wounds and to get on to the important task of seeing to it that good, effective law enforcement becomes a reality in the Juab County Sheriffs Department. It is important to ask ourselves if the sheriffs department can continue down the same path that it has taken in the recent years. We think not! The Sheriffs department must make a new start if it is to handle whatever happens as a result of MX, IPP, oil and gas exploration, and the growth that will occur in the county. believes that the County The Times-New- s Sheriffs Department would do itself and the citizens of the county proud to follow the example of the Nephi City police and start to look, act, and train to become more professional. We think that the time must be now because if it doesnt, police protection in the county will suffer in the years to come. We also suggest that the county commis- sion must do what is necessary to aid the department to achieve these ends. Lastly, the sheriff must, in our opinion, set the example for all within the department to follow! The sheriff must remember that surely as snow will fall on Nebo, his actions speak much louder than his words.
