LeGrand Johnson Construction Company of Logan submitted the apparent low bid of $5,594,728 to perform the work on a 3.7 mile section south of Nephi. Young says that Pepsi Area scouters receive recognition at dinner Area Scouters met Friday to honor their own at the annual Juab Scout District Recognition Dinner. Stephen E. Price received the Award of Merit and Fae Winsor received a Second districts Miler award. Kalin McPherson also received a plaque at the banquet. McPherson was recently named as the third runner up in the Utah National Parks Councils National Youth Representative competition. Juab Award of Stephen Price is won the Scout districts Merit Friday night. Speakers at. the banquet were Larry Sorensen, the district Scout executive, and Wilson W. Sorensen, the executive vice president of the Utah National Parks Council. The Award of Merit is the highest honor that a local council can give to a Scouter. It was given to Price by Larry Sorensen. Price, 35, is the Scoutmaster of the Nephi Fourth LDS Ward. He has been a Blazer B leader, and an assistant Scoutmaster. He is a district advisor to the Order of the Arrow. He has been secretary of the Fourth Ward Elders quorum, a Sunday School teacher, and has worked on various committees in the ward and stake MIA program. He served an LDS mission to South Africa. He is employed at Rancho Trailers. - Mrs. Winsors Second Miler award was presented by district Scout Chairman Richard M. Fae Winsor won the districts Second Miler award at a recognition banquet Friday. Kalin McPherson sports a plaque naming him third runner up in a council contest. I Bean. The award is given to district Scouters for outstanding service to boyhood. Mrs. Winsor is the Blazer Scout leader in the Nephi Sixth LDS Ward, and has served in Scouting positions for 15 years. She previously served as a Primary president and as a Blazer B leader. She has also been a Relief Society chorister and has been a member of a PTA presidency. She and her husband, Albert, are the parents of eight children. McPherson, 10, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex S. McPherson of Nephi. To take the third runner up plaque in the National Youth Representative competition, he .competed against 10,000 other boys in the Utah National Parks Council. The council stretches from Lehi to St. George. He has been active in pack, district, and council activities and has earned his "Faith in God award. District Scout officers said McPherson has done many good turns for his neighbors. He has earned 100 percent attendance awards at Primary and sacrament meetings in the Nephi Third LDS Ward. He is a student in the fourth grade at the Nephi Elementary School. machines were stolen from Haps 66 and Fergs Service Wednesday, Feb. 11. At Haps the machine was rocked into the middle of the stations parking lot, and then apparently put into a truck or other vehicle. It contained approximately $40 in canned drinks. There was no estimate as to how much money it might contain. The machine at Fergs had been located just south of the main door and had just been filled. The 240 canned drinks were worth approximately $96. Both stolen machines were worth $750 each. Young said. The same night, somone took several Pepsi fountain cannisters from behind Vards Drive Inn. Chief Young had no estimate as to the cannisters value. ) The drink machines were owned by the service stations. Don-n- a E. Griffin, 34, was killed Friday near Nephi when the car she was driving was hit by a another vehicle. Car burglaries prompt police chiefs warning Several credit cards and a drivers license were stolen from a car parked at the Fros-T-Free- last Friday. The theft occured at about 3 p.m. The cards and license were taken from Mrs. Eugene Pace of Coalville. A clerk at the drive inn said she saw two boys take Mrs. Paces purse from the car. They then brought her (the clerk) the purse sans the credit cards and drivers license, but still with her money. . On Saturday, Feb. 14, two guns were stolen from Cody B. Taylors car. The car was parked outside Norms Restaurant in Nephi. Police report that a Savage bolt action 22 rifle, model 234, and a Crossman 776 pellet gun were taken. The value of the guns was reported at $75. First Ward plans Police Chief William O. Young to remove valuable objects from their cars, take their keys, and lock their vehicles as they park them. She died instantly. She never knew what hit her, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Paul Mangelson, who investigated the accident. The accident happened 2.7 miles north of Nephi, near the beginning of the freeway. The Highway Patrol received notification of the incident at about 10:45 p.m. r The 1978 Honda Civic sedan Griffin was driving was northbound. It was struck by a southbound 1978 Chevrolet van driven by Douglas Charles Bean, 16, of Coronado, Calif. There were eight other persons in the van: Robert S. Bean, 57, Joseph Browder, 19, John Millard, 16, Danny Umansky, 16, Gina Bellow, 13, Patricia Millard, 13, and Jennifer Millard, 8, all of Bonita, Calif. The vans occupants received only minor injuries and were treated at the scene by the elder Bean, who is a doctor. two-doo- The owner of the Civic, Judith Elaine Singer, 34, also of Salt Lake City, was a passenger in the car. She had minor injuries, principally facial lacerations, and was taken to the Juab County tend. At UPA convention Times-New- s receives awards The Times-New- s won two awards at the annual convention of the Utah Press Association, held Feb. 13, 14, and 15 in Salt Lake City. The awards, third place for Best Community and Society Page and second place for Typographical Excellence, at a banquet Feb. were presented 15. Hot clinkers started a fire in Nephi Citys garbage truck last week, and city officials are asking Ward reunion A circus featuring a ring master, a dancing panther, jumping clowns, and a fat lady will be featured at the annual Levan LDS Ward reunion, to be held Saturday, Feb. 21. The circus, produced by members of the ward, will begin at about 7 p.m., following the reunions dinner. The roast beef dinner "with all the trimmings will begin at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring their own dishes. The reunion is for all current and former members of the Levan day.
