Show S' Window tin I i , Main Street by Mariann Gibson ( Some of you are havent reached everyone, and this weeks col- umn is dedicated to those who; dont read the entire paper each week, arent aware of PEP, or are still confused over what is going on. A year and a half ago the 20th Century Club decided to undertake a community improvement project. Federated Womens Clubs which do this must keep a close record of every step taken in reaching their goal and may enter the project in CIP competition for cash awards, sponsored by Sears Roebuck & Co.. Entries are judged on many aspects: need, success, activities, community imvolvement and club participation. As a CIP entry the club chose to buy some playground equipment for the Nephi City Park, PEP, playground Equipment at Park, get it? If you have children or grandchildren youre probably aware that there is a genuine need for variety and improvement at the pak. To stated the aoine pipe with which to erect the structure. The club has purchased the pro- bably quite tired of hearing me talk about PEP. Being personally involved, as Chairman, Ive tended to mention the project, perhaps too often. But apparently we i seats, chain and hardware. And PEP is off to an encouraging start. That was only the beginning. A beautiful "Big Toy structure was selected, by the club members, as a perfect addition to the park. Its purchase price is approximately $2,200.00, a tidy sum right? That does not include shipping charges, tax or installation not a whole lot, but our "Big Toy structure was on its way to becoming a reality. The club worked on a beautiful quilt, to be raffled for Mothers Day. The results of that project are still unsettled. The club has also made plans to hold another Handcraft Bazaar and Bake Sale this coming July. Last years disappointment has not dampened the clubs enthusiasm to succeed. The biggest thrill came when Beverlee Pexton offered to donate this years dance revue proceeds to the club for their project PEP. Then when NRP Inc. was approached for a donation, Robert Newberry gave the club a choice of some very temping offers, one of which was to match the funds raised at the dance revue. NRP, being a very real part of the community seemed please to support a fund raising campaign which would be to the benefit of everyone, particularly the children. The club later learned that there was to be a second revue, presented by Lisa Blackett and Shirley Lunt, and the pro- costs. An electric range oven is rated at about 3,000 watts of power. But toaster ovens are rated as little as 1,000 watts. even the models that broil Another way of saying 1000 watts is to say 1 kilowatt. When 1 kilowatt of electricity is used for one hour, a kilowatt hour (kwh) of electricity has been used. You are billed for kilowatt hours (kwh) used. If your cost per kwh is 5C (figure your average rate from your last power bill), it will cost just about 2'2C to bake those two potatoes for an hour in a 1,500 watt toaster oven. Using your range oven, it will cost about twice as CONTRACTORS much. Toaster ovens are also convenient for baking cookies and small cakes, heating W dinners and rolls, or for toasting sandwiches at lower cost than ovens. And some models can also broil steaks, chops and hamburgers. Unless you're going to bake bread or cook a complete oven dinner, it will probably pay you to use a toaster oven. You'll save electricity . . . and money! D&S Portable Chemical Toilets has units available for the Nephi Area at reasonable club held a Handcraft Bazaar last July and a rummage sale in August, approximately $300.00 was raised, between the two projects. This $300.00 has already been spent and a set of baby swings (with four seats) is in the process of being added (in the near future) to the park. Thanks to the kind offer of Ted Yowell to do the welding and assembling of the structure. Nephi City, with the generous help of Barton BuildPlumbing and has donated ing Supply, advertising buildings, just too many to mention.
